The controversy surrounding Kala Hiran, a film reportedly inspired by the 1998 blackbuck case involving Salman Khan, has taken a fresh turn after actor Somy Ali publicly voiced support for the film’s producer, Amit Jani.
The development comes after Salman Khan’s legal team sent a notice to the makers of Kala Hiran, alleging that the project violates the actor’s personality rights and could interfere with ongoing legal proceedings related to the case. In response, producer Amit Jani claimed he had received numerous death threats and abusive messages following the legal notice.

Amid the escalating dispute, Somy Ali, who was once in a relationship with Salman Khan, came out in support of Jani. Commenting on a video shared by the producer on social media, she defended his right to make a film on the subject.
“You have every right to make a film on any subject. Only guilty people hide and threaten others,” Somy wrote, a remark that quickly attracted attention online.
The legal notice sent on behalf of Salman Khan reportedly argued that the film is defamatory in nature and constitutes a violation of the actor’s personality rights. The notice also stated that the blackbuck case remains under consideration before the Rajasthan High Court and that producing a film based on the matter could potentially affect the administration of justice and Salman Khan’s right to a fair trial.
Reacting to the notice, Amit Jani posted a video claiming that he had been subjected to a barrage of threatening messages over the past several hours. According to the producer, he received messages warning him against visiting Mumbai and threatening violence. He also alleged that some threats were sent in the name of criminal organisations, though he admitted he could not verify their authenticity.
In the video, Jani dramatically tore up a copy of the legal notice and declared it to be his response to the legal action taken against the film.
Kala Hiran is directed by Bharat S. Shrinate and produced by Amit Jani, whose production banner was previously associated with Udaipur Files, a film based on the murder of Udaipur tailor Kanhaiya Lal. According to the makers, Kala Hiran aims to present a gritty narrative inspired by real-life legal battles and controversies. The film’s teaser is scheduled to be released on June 20.

The controversy stems from the widely publicised blackbuck hunting case dating back to 1998. During the shooting of Hum Saath Saath Hain in Rajasthan, Salman Khan was accused of hunting protected blackbucks in Kankani village near Jodhpur. While several co-stars, including Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Tabu and Neelam, were acquitted, Salman was convicted by a trial court in 2018 and sentenced to five years in prison before later securing bail.
With Somy Ali’s intervention adding a new dimension to the ongoing dispute, the debate around Kala Hiran has intensified. As legal questions, allegations and public reactions continue to unfold, the film is already generating significant attention well before its release.
