Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has broken his silence on the ongoing student protests and the controversy over alleged examination irregularities, saying that students deserve more than public outrage and assuring them that the government is committed to bringing reforms and accountability to the education system.
The minister’s statement comes amid nationwide protests over allegations of exam paper leaks and irregularities in competitive examinations, with thousands of students demanding greater transparency, stricter action against those responsible, and long-term reforms to safeguard the integrity of the examination process.
Dharmendra Pradhan’s First Public Response
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Pradhan addressed the growing concerns for the first time since the protests intensified.
In his post, he wrote:
“We owe our students more than outrage. We owe them answers, reforms and accountability.”
The Education Minister said the government recognizes the anxiety and frustration among students and remains committed to finding solutions. He added that the Centre is prepared to discuss the issue in Parliament and take all necessary steps to address the concerns raised by students and their families.
His remarks are being seen as the government’s first official response after weeks of demonstrations and criticism from opposition leaders, student organizations, and civil society groups.
Students Demand Transparency
The protests have largely centered around allegations of irregularities in major competitive examinations, particularly claims of question paper leaks and lapses in the examination process.
Students have demanded:
- A transparent investigation into alleged exam irregularities.
- Strict action against those responsible for paper leaks.

Earlier this week, protesters organized a “Chalo Sansad” march in Delhi, demanding immediate action from the government.
The protest turned tense after clashes broke out between demonstrators and Delhi Police.
According to Delhi Police, protesters violated prohibitory orders, ignored repeated warnings to disperse, and displayed aggressive behavior, forcing authorities to intervene.
However, protesters have strongly disputed the police’s version of events, alleging that security personnel used excessive force without provocation.
Several videos shared on social media appeared to show police using lathicharge and tear gas to disperse crowds. Protesters also claimed that individuals dressed in civilian clothes assaulted demonstrators during the clashes.
Political Reactions
The protests have drawn widespread political attention.
Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi joined a protest outside the Prime Minister’s residence along with several Congress leaders, demanding justice for students. The leaders were later detained by Delhi Police during the demonstration.
Several opposition parties have accused the government of failing to protect the interests of students and have called for greater transparency in the conduct of competitive examinations.
Public Figures Extend Support
The issue has also received support from prominent personalities.
Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah recently released an emotional video message condemning the police action against students. He expressed anger over the treatment of young protesters and urged them not to lose hope, saying many people across the country stand with them.
Social activist Sonam Wangchuk also joined the movement earlier this month by launching a hunger strike in support of students demanding education reforms and accountability.
Government Assures Reforms
Despite mounting criticism, Dharmendra Pradhan has reiterated that the government remains committed to addressing students’ concerns.
By promising discussions in Parliament, the minister indicated that the Centre is willing to engage with stakeholders and consider reforms aimed at strengthening the examination system.
His statement emphasizes three key priorities—answers, reforms, and accountability—which the government says will guide its response to the ongoing controversy.
