A tragic road accident on Sunday claimed the life of a 32-year-old man at the Durgam Cheruvu Cable Bridge in Hyderabad, after a speeding luxury car allegedly lost control and mounted the footpath.
The victim, identified as Shyam Raj, had reportedly stopped on the bridge along with his wife to take photographs when the incident occurred. According to police, a high-speed Mercedes car suddenly veered off course, struck the man, and caused fatal injuries.
He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, but despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries later in the evening.
Police officials stated that the driver of the vehicle fled the scene after the accident, abandoning the car at the spot. The luxury vehicle has been traced to a Bengaluru-based company, Quantum Minerals and Metals Pvt. Ltd., and investigators are currently working to identify the person who was driving at the time of the crash.
Preliminary findings suggest that over-speeding and negligent driving may have led to the accident. Officials noted that the vehicle mounted the footpath before hitting the pedestrian area where the couple was standing.
CCTV footage from the vicinity has reportedly captured the movement of the vehicle before and after the incident. However, the identity of the driver remains unconfirmed, and police teams have been formed to track down the absconding suspect.
A case has been registered under relevant sections related to rash driving and causing death by negligence. Authorities have assured that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the exact sequence of events and bring the accused to justice.
The incident has once again raised concerns over road safety and speeding on Hyderabad’s major flyovers, especially popular scenic spots like the Durgam Cheruvu Cable Bridge, which often attract visitors for photography and leisure.
