The political battle over the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protests intensified on Tuesday as Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi led a protest march towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official residence in New Delhi. The demonstration came a day after clashes between Delhi Police and CJP protesters during the “Chalo Sansad” march, which left several people injured.
Rahul Gandhi accused the Centre of suppressing the voices of students demanding accountability over alleged examination irregularities. He said the government was refusing to discuss the issue in Parliament and was instead responding with force.
Sharing his views on social media, Rahul said the march to the Prime Minister’s residence was meant to seek answers for what he described as the “brutal treatment” of students. He demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, holding them responsible for what happened during the protests.
According to Congress leaders, the decision to march towards the Prime Minister’s residence was taken after the Opposition was allegedly not allowed to raise the issue in Parliament. Rahul reportedly told party MPs that it was time to “wake up the Prime Minister” to the concerns of the country’s youth.

Several senior Congress leaders, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and KC Venugopal, joined the demonstration. This marked the first time Rahul Gandhi personally led a protest outside the Prime Minister’s residence while serving as Leader of Opposition.
Before the protest, Rahul addressed the media outside Parliament and said India’s examination and education system had “collapsed.” He argued that students were fighting for their future and deserved to be heard rather than being met with police action.
He also questioned why the Prime Minister had remained silent despite repeated allegations of examination irregularities. Rahul further claimed that students today have very few opportunities, and when even competitive examinations become controversial, their future is put at risk.
The Congress leader also criticised the functioning of Parliament, alleging that the Opposition was denied an opportunity to debate the issue. He claimed that the Speaker had indicated discussions could only happen with the government’s approval, raising concerns about the functioning of parliamentary democracy.
After speaking to reporters, Rahul Gandhi, accompanied by Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other Congress leaders, visited Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital to meet protesters who were injured during Monday’s clashes. He later proceeded towards Lok Kalyan Marg to continue the protest.
Meanwhile, representatives of the Cockroach Janata Party met Union Health Minister JP Nadda and submitted their demands in writing. The party has maintained that its agitation will continue until Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigns over the alleged examination irregularities.
At the same time, activist Sonam Wangchuk remains admitted to Safdarjung Hospital, where he continues his hunger strike under medical supervision. Doctors have stated that while his condition remains stable, he continues to face health concerns due to the prolonged fast.
With protests continuing on the streets and political parties sharpening their attacks inside and outside Parliament, the controversy surrounding the education system and the government’s handling of the demonstrations has become one of the biggest political flashpoints of the Monsoon Session.
