Passengers flying out of Mumbai Airport should take note of an important terminal change coming into effect from August 1, 2026. Akasa Air is shifting all its Mumbai operations from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA).
The change will apply to both Akasa Air’s domestic and international flights. The airline has advised passengers to check their booking details and terminal information before leaving for the airport to avoid last-minute confusion.
Akasa Air shifts all Mumbai flights to Terminal 2
From August 1, passengers travelling with Akasa Air from Mumbai will need to head to Terminal 2 (T2) instead of Terminal 1.
The airline has said that bringing all its Mumbai operations under one terminal is aimed at making the travel experience more convenient and streamlining passenger movement. Travellers have also been encouraged to complete web check-in through the airline’s website or mobile application before reaching the airport.
The move is particularly important for passengers who may have travelled from Mumbai previously and are used to reaching Terminal 1 for their Akasa Air flight. A last-minute terminal mix-up could mean additional travel time, especially during Mumbai’s busy traffic hours.
Air India Express terminal change is coming later
There is also a terminal reshuffle planned for Air India Express, but it is important to note that this change does not begin on August 1.
Air India Express is scheduled to move its domestic Mumbai operations to Terminal 1 from October 1, 2026. Its international operations will remain at Terminal 2 under the planned arrangement.
This means passengers flying Akasa Air from August 1 should head to T2, while Air India Express passengers should carefully check their individual booking and travel date before deciding which terminal to use.
Why passengers should double-check their terminal
Mumbai Airport’s two terminals are located in different parts of the airport complex, so arriving at the wrong terminal can create unnecessary stress. With traffic often unpredictable, particularly during peak hours or heavy rain, passengers may lose valuable time if they have to travel between terminals.
The safest option is to check the terminal printed on the latest ticket, boarding pass, airline communication or booking confirmation before leaving home.
Passengers should also complete web check-in wherever available and arrive at the airport with enough time for baggage drop, security checks and boarding.
A bigger reshuffle at Mumbai Airport
The terminal changes are part of a wider effort to reorganise airline operations at Mumbai’s busy airport and balance passenger movement between its terminals. The planned changes are also taking place as Mumbai’s aviation infrastructure prepares for further expansion, including the gradual development of Navi Mumbai International Airport.
For travellers, however, the most important thing is simple: if you’re flying Akasa Air from Mumbai on or after August 1, check T2 before you leave home.
And if you’re flying Air India Express, don’t assume that the August 1 change applies to you. Check your booking carefully, particularly as the airline’s planned domestic shift to T1 is scheduled for October 1.
