A young woman who was booked for allegedly using abusive language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar has now issued a public apology in a video that has gone viral on social media.
In the emotional clip, she expresses regret over her remarks and says she was influenced by others during the protest. Calling it her “first and last mistake,” she appeals to the public for forgiveness.
‘I Came Under Someone’s Influence’
In the video, the woman says she regrets what happened and admits that she should not have used offensive language against the Prime Minister.
“I came under the influence of some people at the protest and said many wrong things against the Prime Minister,” she says in the video. She also apologises to the country, adding that she feels ashamed of her actions and hopes people will forgive her.
The video has spread widely across social media platforms. However, its authenticity has not been independently verified by several media outlets.

Confusion Over Her Age
The apology video has also sparked discussion because of a discrepancy regarding the woman’s age.
While the FIR reportedly identifies her as 25 years old, the woman claims in the apology video that she is “just 15 years old.” The difference has raised questions online, though there has been no official clarification regarding the discrepancy.
FIR Registered After Complaint
The case began after a complaint was filed with the Noida Police over a viral video from the July 23 protest at Jantar Mantar.
Police registered a Zero FIR before transferring the matter to the Parliament Street Police Station in New Delhi, which has jurisdiction over the location where the incident allegedly took place.
According to the complaint, the woman allegedly used abusive and objectionable language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the protest.
PM Modi Calls for Forgiveness
Addressing the controversy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was deeply hurt that abusive remarks had allegedly been directed not only at him but also at his late mother.
Despite expressing disappointment, the Prime Minister urged people not to respond with hatred. Instead, he appealed to citizens to forgive what he described as “misguided children” and help guide them in the right direction.
He said abusive language has no place in a civilised society and stressed that young people should be supported rather than abandoned when they make mistakes.
Political Reactions Continue
The incident has triggered political reactions from both the ruling party and the Opposition.
The Congress criticised the Prime Minister’s remarks, saying people were expecting an apology from him rather than a message about forgiving others.
Meanwhile, the case continues to remain a subject of public debate, with discussions ranging from freedom of expression and acceptable public conduct to the use of criminal law in such cases.
