India witnessed a day packed with dramatic developments across courts, airports and city streets as several major stories grabbed nationwide attention. From emotional arguments in the mysterious death case of Twisha Sharma and a shocking acid attack in Pune to an Air India emergency landing in Delhi and fresh monsoon updates for Mumbai, the country remained on edge with back-to-back breaking headlines. Meanwhile, important court rulings ahead of Bakr Eid and CBSE’s decision to extend Class 12 answer sheet access deadlines also sparked widespread public discussion.
1. Twisha Sharma Death Case: MP High Court Hears Emotional Plea For Last Rites
The Madhya Pradesh High Court saw emotional arguments in the Twisha Sharma death case as counsel for mother-in-law Giribala Singh urged the court not to delay the last rites. The family told the court, “She was the daughter-in-law of our family… it is our religious duty to perform her last rites.” This comes amid a legal fight over a second post-mortem.

Twisha, 31, originally from Noida, was found dead on May 12 at her marital home in Bhopal’s Bagh Mugalia Extension. Her family alleges foul play, citing injury marks and claims she said her husband assaulted her.
Meanwhile, husband Samarth Singh told the High Court he’s ready to withdraw his bail plea and surrender, but requested that the trial court decide his bail application the same day. The HC has ordered a second autopsy to be done by a team from AIIMS Delhi. The doctors will be flown to Bhopal for the procedure. The first post-mortem said Twisha died due to “antemortem hanging by ligature” but also noted multiple blunt force injuries. The MP government has already recommended a CBI probe into the case.
2. Pune Acid Attack: Chef Arrested In Karnataka Within 24 Hours
Pune police have arrested a 30-year-old chef from Madhya Pradesh for allegedly throwing acid on a young woman and her male colleague after a personal dispute. The accused tried to dodge police by taking a train and changing clothes several times. But CCTV footage helped cops track him down in Karnataka within 24 hours of the attack. Both victims suffered burn injuries and are undergoing treatment. A detailed probe is on.

3. Monsoon Update For Mumbai: Rains Likely Between June 5–10
Good news for Mumbaikars! The India Meteorological Department says the southwest monsoon is expected to reach Mumbai between June 5 and June 10, 2026. Monsoon is likely to hit Kerala around May 26 and then move up the western coast. If conditions stay favourable, it’ll reach Mumbai in about 10 days after that. Expect more clouds, pre-monsoon showers, and a drop in temperature as the city gears up for the rains.
4. Calcutta HC Refuses To Stay Animal Slaughter Ban Ahead Of Bakr Eid
Ahead of Bakr Eid, the Calcutta High Court declined to stay the West Bengal government’s order restricting slaughter of bulls, bullocks, cows, calves and buffaloes across the state. The court also told authorities to make sure animal slaughter doesn’t happen in open public spaces.

During the hearing, the court observed that cow sacrifice is not seen as an essential religious practice in Islam, citing past rulings. The state has 24 hours to decide on exemptions under the West Bengal Animal Slaughter Control Act. The order has kicked off fresh legal and political debate in Bengal over animal welfare, religious practices, and enforcement.
5. CBSE Extends Class 12 Answer Sheet Copy Deadline To May 24
CBSE has extended the last date to get scanned photocopies of Class 12 answer books to May 24, 2025. The board said its website faced “unprecedented traffic” and multiple unauthorised interference attempts, causing disruptions.

“Hence, in an attempt to ensure that no student is left behind, the Board is extending the last date for obtaining scanned photocopy of answer book of Class XII Board Examinations,” CBSE said. Students will now get two days after receiving their scanned copy to apply for verification or re-evaluation. All other terms stay the same.
6. Air India Delhi Flight Declares Emergency Over Engine Fire Alert
An Air India flight from Bengaluru to Delhi declared a full emergency at IGI Airport on Thursday night over a suspected engine fire. Flight AI 2802, an Airbus A320 with 171 passengers, landed safely on runway 29R at around 9:30 pm and was towed away. Runway ops resumed at 10:18 pm.
Air India said the cockpit crew got a fire warning from one engine during final approach. The alert was confirmed to be true. The crew followed all SOPs and landed safely. Everyone disembarked normally. The airline has started a full investigation with regulators.
“We are committed to sharing further verified information as soon as it becomes available. The safety of our passengers and crew remains our highest priority,” Air India said.
This happened the same day another Air India A321 suffered a tail strike while landing in Bengaluru. Flight AI2651 from Delhi was grounded for inspection after the incident. All 181 passengers were safe.
7. Tight Security, Hidden Grief: More On Twisha Sharma Case
Police have booked husband Samarth Singh and Giribala Singh under Sections 80(2), 85 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Dowry Prohibition Act. A Judicial Magistrate had earlier rejected the family’s plea for a second post-mortem, saying minor procedural lapses alone won’t justify it. But the High Court has now stepped in and ordered a fresh autopsy by AIIMS Delhi doctors. The case remains under intense scrutiny as the family continues to demand answers.
