Meghalaya has been witnessing intense monsoon activity, with several districts receiving heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours. Mawsynram, famous for being one of the wettest places on Earth, recorded a staggering 526.4 mm of rain during this period, the highest in the state.

The relentless downpour has raised concerns over possible flash floods, landslides and severe waterlogging, particularly in vulnerable areas. Authorities have issued warnings and urged residents to remain alert as the spell of heavy rain is expected to continue.

Low-lying areas and regions prone to landslides are being closely monitored, with officials advising people to avoid unnecessary travel and stay away from swollen rivers and unstable slopes. Emergency response teams have also been put on standby to deal with any situation arising from the extreme weather.

Mawsynram, located in the East Khasi Hills district, is globally renowned for receiving exceptionally high rainfall, especially during the monsoon season. The latest rainfall figures once again highlight the intensity of the ongoing monsoon across Meghalaya.

Residents have been asked to follow weather advisories and take necessary precautions as authorities continue to monitor the situation. With more rain predicted in the coming days, the threat of flooding and landslides remains high across several parts of the state.
