Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya is facing growing scrutiny over his form and leadership in the ongoing IPL 2026 season, as former cricketer and commentator Aakash Chopra raised pointed questions about his recent performances.

Pandya, who leads Mumbai Indians, has had a difficult start to the season both as a batter and a leader. In four matches so far, he has managed only 81 runs, while the team continues to struggle at the bottom of the 10-team points table with just one win from five games.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra questioned Pandya’s recent impact in crucial situations, asking when the MI captain last played a defining match-winning innings. He noted that while Pandya has contributed with short cameos, he has not recently produced a commanding knock that single-handedly turned a game in his team’s favour.

Chopra emphasized that Mumbai Indians, as a five-time championship-winning franchise, expect consistent leadership performances from their captain, especially in high-pressure situations. He also pointed out that Pandya’s ability as a power-hitter makes him capable of delivering big match-winning scores, but that potential has not translated into results this season so far.

Beyond individual performance, concerns have also been raised about Mumbai Indians’ overall strategy and team balance. Chopra suggested that the team may need fresh tactical ideas and a more fearless batting approach to revive their campaign. He specifically mentioned the possibility of promoting players like Sherfane Rutherford higher in the batting order to address middle-order instability.

He also hinted that the team’s current struggles reflect a broader need for change in approach, as MI continue to search for consistency in both batting and bowling departments.

With pressure mounting and the team languishing at the bottom of the table, attention is increasingly shifting toward Hardik Pandya’s leadership decisions and his ability to lead a turnaround in the remaining matches of the season.
