Disha Patani has completed 10 years in Bollywood, and as she enters the next chapter of her career, the actor is ready to challenge herself in a completely different way.
Over the years, Disha has created a strong image for herself with glamorous roles, action-packed performances and her striking screen presence. However, the actor now wants audiences to see her beyond just glamour and physicality. She is looking for characters that can stand on their own and carry an entire film.
Disha Patani Wants More Challenging Characters
Looking back at her journey, Disha recalled how everything was new when she made her Bollywood debut with M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story. From learning how a film set works to understanding the camera and taking direction, she was still discovering the craft of acting.
Disha said that when she started, she depended heavily on her instincts. With a decade of experience behind her, she now feels that she understands her craft better and has more confidence in her abilities.
However, she does not want that confidence to make her stop learning.
“I never want to reach a point where I feel like I know everything or that I can do something without putting in the work,” she said.
For Disha, the most exciting part of acting is the uncertainty that comes with entering a new character. She believes that the curiosity to learn and discover something new is what keeps an actor growing.
‘I Don’t Want to Be Defined by One Image’
Disha is now particularly interested in characters where glamour is not the main attraction. She wants to explore roles with contradictions, emotional depth and stronger character arcs.
“The physicality or the glamour isn’t the focus and the character itself carries the film,” she said while discussing the kind of roles she wants to take up.
Psychological dramas, character-driven thrillers and action films with challenging characters are some of the genres that interest her.
This marks an interesting shift for Disha, who has often been associated with glamorous and physically demanding roles. Rather than being limited to one particular image, she wants her performances and characters to become the reason audiences watch her films.
Her Next Decade Could Be Different
As she completes a decade in the Hindi film industry, Disha appears determined to take more risks with her career. She wants to work with filmmakers from different languages and explore stories that allow her to experiment as an actor.
Her goal is not simply to do something different for the sake of it, but to continue learning and challenge herself with every new project.
Disha also believes that losing her curiosity would be a bigger fear than facing a difficult role. For her, stepping into unfamiliar territory is part of what makes acting exciting.
“I don’t want to be defined by one particular kind of role or image,” she said.
Disha Patani’s Upcoming Projects
On the work front, Disha was last seen on the big screen in Awarapan 2, alongside Emraan Hashmi.
She is also set to make her Hollywood debut with Kevin Spacey in Hollywood Saga – The Portal of Force. The project will mark another new step in Disha’s career as she looks beyond Bollywood and explores opportunities on an international platform.
After 10 years in the industry, Disha Patani seems ready for a new phase — one where challenging characters, different genres and the strength of the story matter more than glamour.
Her next decade could therefore be less about maintaining an image and more about breaking it.
