Actor Omi Vaidya, who won hearts as Chatur Ramalingam in 3 Idiots, has voiced his support for educator and climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, who is currently on an indefinite hunger strike at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. Concerned about Wangchuk’s declining health, Omi made an emotional appeal on social media, urging people to pay attention to the issues he is fighting for.

In a heartfelt video, Omi introduced himself as “Chatur from 3 Idiots” before reminding viewers that Aamir Khan’s beloved character, Phunsukh Wangdu, was inspired by the real-life journey of Sonam Wangchuk. Drawing a connection between the iconic film and the man behind the inspiration, Omi said he did not want “Phunsukh Wangdu to die.”

The actor spoke warmly about Wangchuk, describing him as a humble, inspiring innovator, engineer, and education reformer. Having met him personally, Omi said he deeply admired his work and the positive impact he has had over the years.

Expressing concern over Wangchuk’s health, Omi revealed that the activist’s condition has reportedly worsened during his hunger strike. He noted that Wangchuk’s blood sugar levels had dropped significantly and urged people not to ignore the situation.

Acknowledging that many people are busy with work and everyday responsibilities, Omi appealed to the public to take a few moments to understand the protest and the demands being raised. He said that if people looked into the issue, they might realize why it matters.

“I don’t want Phunsukh Wangdu to die, and I don’t think you want him to either,” Omi said, urging people to spread awareness through social media and reach out to their elected representatives if they believed in the cause.

Omi Vaidya is not the only actor to express concern. Actor Prakash Raj has also extended his support to Sonam Wangchuk, joining the growing list of public figures who have spoken about his deteriorating health.

Sonam Wangchuk joined the ongoing protest at Jantar Mantar on June 28 and has since been on an indefinite hunger strike. According to those associated with the protest, his health has steadily declined. Recent updates claim he has lost over eight kilograms, while his blood sugar and blood pressure have dropped, raising concerns among supporters.

The protest, led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), began over alleged irregularities in the NEET examination and has now expanded into a broader movement. Protesters are demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and compensation for the families of NEET aspirants who allegedly died by suicide following the controversy.

As the hunger strike continues, support for Wangchuk has grown among students, activists, opposition leaders, and members of the film industry. Omi Vaidya’s emotional message has further highlighted the concern surrounding Wangchuk’s health and renewed attention on the issues being raised through the protest.
