Actor Ram Kapoor has been making headlines for his comments on Lock Upp Season 2, and amid the ongoing buzz, an old interview featuring him and his wife Gautami Kapoor has resurfaced online. In the candid conversation, the couple opened up about one of television’s most talked-about moments—Ram’s on-screen kiss with Sakshi Tanwar in Bade Achhe Lagte Hain.

The scene, which aired over a decade ago, created a stir across the country as it was considered one of the boldest moments on Indian television at the time. While it became a landmark moment in Ram’s career, Gautami admitted that she initially struggled to accept it.

Speaking about the incident, Ram revealed that the kiss with Sakshi was actually not his first on-screen kiss.

He shared that he had kissed two other actresses on screen before, but for some reason, it was the scene with Sakshi that affected Gautami the most.

Explaining her reaction, Gautami admitted that it came from a place of love and possessiveness. She recalled that she was a young mother then, juggling responsibilities at home while raising their two children, and the news caught her off guard.

According to Gautami, what hurt her more than the scene itself was the fact that Ram had not discussed it with her beforehand. She revealed that after his earlier on-screen kisses, she had clearly told him that she did not want him to do another kissing scene.

She said that because she learned about it only later, she felt disappointed and reacted emotionally. However, with time, she realised that her response was driven by her personal emotions rather than professional understanding.

Being an actor herself, Gautami eventually reflected on the situation and accepted that acting sometimes requires performers to do scenes that serve the story.

Ram, on the other hand, defended his decision by saying that actors have a responsibility towards the script they agree to perform. According to him, once an actor signs a project, it is important to do justice to the character and the story, even if certain scenes are personally uncomfortable.

Interestingly, Ram also revealed on Lock Upp 2 that Gautami later changed her perspective and became one of his biggest supporters. He recalled that before filming the iconic scene, she encouraged him by telling him to go ahead and make her proud.

Ram believes Gautami understood the significance of the moment, as he became one of the first television actors to share an on-screen kiss on Indian television. Her support, he said, gave him the confidence to perform the scene without hesitation.

Over the years, the controversial scene has become an important chapter in Indian television history. While it initially created debate among viewers, it also marked a shift in storytelling on the small screen.

Today, Ram and Gautami often look back at the incident with honesty and humour, showing how open communication and mutual understanding helped them move past a moment that once tested their relationship.
