Rashmika Mandanna is back to work after taking a month-and-a-half-long break following an injury she suffered while shooting for her upcoming action thriller Mysaa. The actor recently opened up about how the injury happened, her recovery, and how the unexpected break allowed her to spend quality time with her family and husband, actor Vijay Deverakonda.
Recalling the incident, Rashmika revealed that she injured her hip while shooting a song. She said that she suddenly felt something snap but continued shooting until the pain became difficult to manage.
“The tendon in my hip bone snapped while shooting a song. I felt the snap but continued shooting until I could not lift my right leg. The next day, I visited a hospital and got an MRI,” she said.
Rashmika added that she was surprised by the seriousness of the injury because she was still able to walk. She even went to the hospital on her own, which reportedly surprised the doctors.
“I was my happy self, so the doctor did not expect such an injury. The doctors were surprised that I managed to walk up to the hospital all by myself. They told me that my pain receptors were messed up,” she recalled.
Although doctors cleared her to return to work within a week, Rashmika decided to take more time to recover properly before getting back on set.
The actor has now resumed shooting in Hyderabad for Rana Bali, which is expected to release soon. She revealed that she has around 10 days of shooting left for the project before moving on to her other commitments.
“I have two other films to shoot after that. I have my month planned. I am getting my dates and looking at the calendar,” Rashmika said.
While the injury forced her to slow down professionally, the break gave Rashmika something she had been missing—time with her family. She was able to catch up on sleep and spend more quality time with her loved ones.
The break also gave her an opportunity to spend extended time with Vijay Deverakonda. The couple got married in February this year, but Rashmika revealed that they had barely been able to spend time together after their wedding because of their busy schedules.
“We did not get to see each other for three months after the wedding. We would just speak on the phone. This is the universe’s way of saying, ‘Come down, I will keep you at home now,’” she said.
Rashmika admitted that although the circumstances were unfortunate, she enjoyed having so much time with Vijay. She revealed that the couple spent their downtime watching series together and joked that she had already managed to convert Vijay into someone who enjoys watching them.
Vijay, she added, would love to have more such downtime in the future—but without the injury.
“He said he would like more of this, but next time without an injury,” Rashmika recalled with a laugh.
The actor also spoke about how valuable the time became for her. Despite being unable to move around freely, she said she was grateful for the memories she created with her family.
“I did not feel like I was unable to do anything because I don’t like depending on anyone to help me. I can just be on the bed waiting for someone to help me get off it. I like to believe I am fit enough to do things by myself,” she said.
For Rashmika, the unexpected break turned into an important reminder about slowing down and spending time with the people closest to her. After weeks away from the sets, she is now back to work with several projects lined up, while carrying with her the memories of the precious time she got to spend with her family.
