Indian cinema’s global rise continues to grow stronger, and now Hollywood star John Krasinski has openly admitted that films coming out of India are leaving filmmakers across the world amazed. The actor, best known for playing Jack Ryan and starring in A Quiet Place, recently revealed that he is eager to watch Ranveer Singh’s blockbuster spy thriller Dhurandhar and hopes to creatively learn from it.

In a recent conversation with NDTV while promoting Jack Ryan: Ghost War, John was asked whether he had watched Dhurandhar and what he thinks about Indian cinema in general. Although he admitted he hasn’t seen the film yet, the Hollywood actor spoke with genuine admiration about the impact Indian films are having internationally.

“I haven’t seen the film yet. But as far as Indian films at large, some of the most cutting-edge movie making that we have today is coming from there,” John said during the interview.

The actor further revealed that many of his filmmaker friends in Hollywood regularly discuss Indian films because of their scale, ambition and storytelling style. According to John, directors and writers abroad are constantly impressed by how Indian cinema continues to experiment with genres, emotions and larger-than-life storytelling.

“I know a lot of my filmmaking friends who are trying to direct movies are constantly and consistently blown away by films coming out from over there,” he added.

John also made it clear that he would absolutely love to watch Dhurandhar if he gets the opportunity. Speaking about how he draws inspiration from different kinds of cinema, the actor explained that watching films from around the world helps him grow as a storyteller.

“Of course. I love watching anything. It’s always inspiring to see what everybody else is doing,” he shared.

The praise from John Krasinski comes at a time when Dhurandhar has become one of Indian cinema’s biggest success stories. Directed by Aditya Dhar, the espionage action franchise created a massive storm at the box office after release.

The first film released in December 2025 and reportedly collected over ₹1307 crore worldwide, becoming one of the highest-grossing Indian films ever. Its sequel, Dhurandhar 2, released in March this year and crossed ₹1790 crore globally, taking the franchise’s popularity to another level.

The films feature a massive ensemble cast including Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, Sara Arjun, Rakesh Bedi, Gaurav Gera and Danish Pandor alongside Ranveer Singh.

The story revolves around Jaskirat Singh Rangi, also known as Hamza Ali Mazari, an undercover operative sent deep into Pakistan’s Lyari region to infiltrate a dangerous terror network. To complete the mission, the character becomes part of a Baloch gang, marries the daughter of a local political leader and slowly integrates himself into enemy territory. The emotional intensity, action sequences and patriotic themes helped the franchise become a cultural phenomenon.

Interestingly, during the same interview, John Krasinski also opened up about his own creative process while working on spy thrillers like Jack Ryan. The actor explained that he constantly builds stories in his mind while working on different projects. He revealed that while filming Fountain of Youth with Guy Ritchie, he was simultaneously thinking about ideas for Jack Ryan.

John shared that he mentally visualises scenes, characters and even the ending credits long before he actually sits down to write the screenplay. According to him, filmmaking and writing often feel lonely because creators spend so much time inside their own imagination.

Meanwhile, John has returned to screens with Jack Ryan: Ghost War, which released on Amazon Prime Video on May 20, 2026. Apart from starring in the lead role, John has also co-written the screenplay and served as co-producer of the project.

The film sees the return of several familiar faces including Wendell Pierce as James Greer, Michael Kelly as Mike November, Betty Gabriel as Elizabeth Wright and Sienna Miller as MI6 operative Emma Marlowe.

John Krasinski’s comments are now being celebrated by Indian fans online, with many seeing it as another proud moment for Bollywood and Indian filmmaking. As Indian films continue breaking box office records and reaching international audiences, appreciation from global stars like John only proves that the influence of Indian cinema is now truly worldwide.
