New Delhi, April 2026 – Director Nitesh Tiwari grew visibly emotional during the unveiling of the teaser for Ramayana Part 1 in Mumbai, marking a long-awaited milestone in what has been a seven-year journey to bring the epic to the big screen. Though Ranbir Kapoor, who plays Lord Rama, was absent, Tiwari and producer Namit Malhotra shared the moment with an enthusiastic audience, reflecting on the immense effort and dedication behind the project.
Seven Years in the Making
Speaking to the audience, Tiwari said, “Iss moment tak pahunchne mein mujhe saat saal lage hain. Filmmaking is a very speculative and lonely process. Every moment in these seven years, I have imagined this moment and wondered what the reaction would be. Aaj aap logon ka reaction dekh kar mujhe lag raha hai those seven years were worth it.”
He continued, “A lot of people have worked very hard to help the film reach here. I hope we get an equal amount of love from all of you. Thank you.” The heartfelt words highlighted the director’s emotional connection to the project and the scale of the effort involved.

The Teaser: Glimpses of an Epic
The teaser offered audiences their first glimpse of Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, showcasing moments from his coronation to his exile in the forests of Panchavati. The visuals emphasize Rama’s composure, grace, and strength. The teaser also briefly teases Yash as the antagonist Ravana, adding dramatic weight to the unfolding story.
Alia Bhatt, who shared a video message ahead of the launch, encouraged fans to support the project, saying, “Ranbir has done such a beautiful job and I can’t wait for you guys to see it. It’s absolutely fabulous.”
Unprecedented Scale and Investment
Producer Namit Malhotra emphasized the film’s ambitious scale, revealing that the combined budget for both parts exceeds Rs 4,000 crore ($500 million), making it one of the largest productions in Indian cinema history. Malhotra stated, “When we set out to make this six or seven years ago, people thought I was a lunatic because no Indian film comes close to this scale. We’re making the largest film in the world for the greatest epic that deserves to be seen globally. And yet, we are doing it efficiently, grounded in practicality.”
The film’s music brings together the talents of AR Rahman and Hans Zimmer, a collaboration Rahman described as “terrifying for both of us” due to the epic and iconic nature of the story. “We have to give something new, something to the world—from India to the world,” he added.
Star Cast and Release
Alongside Ranbir Kapoor, the film features Sai Pallavi, Sunny Deol, and Ravi Dubey in pivotal roles. Ramayana will be released in two parts, with the first installment scheduled for a worldwide release in October 2026 ahead of Diwali, followed by the second part in Diwali 2027.
With its high-profile cast, massive budget, and creative team, Ramayana aims to set new benchmarks for Indian cinema while reimagining the timeless epic for audiences worldwide. Nitesh Tiwari’s emotional moment at the teaser launch serves as a reminder of the dedication, vision, and patience required to bring such a monumental project to life.
