Comedian Kapil Sharma has come out in support of singer Daler Mehndi after a controversy erupted over the singer’s performance at the Maa Kunjapuri Mela in Uttarakhand. After a video of Uttarakhand minister Subodh Uniyal questioning Daler’s condition on stage went viral, Kapil urged people not to jump to conclusions without knowing what the singer has been going through.

The controversy began when Uniyal alleged that Daler appeared disoriented during the cultural programme and was lip-syncing rather than singing live. The minister’s remarks sparked discussions on social media, with some questioning the singer’s performance and others asking for more context before drawing conclusions.

Kapil, however, reminded people that there could be more to the situation than what was visible in the viral clip. Sharing a video posted by Daler’s brother, singer Mika Singh, on his Instagram Stories, Kapil said that Daler had undergone serious surgery, a detail he believes many people were unaware of.

Kapil wrote, “@thedalermehndiofficial paji went through some serious surgery which people don’t know. All we need is to be little kinder towards each other. We don’t know what someone is going through. Thank you @mika singh paji for the clarification. May God bless Daler paji 🥹🙏 We love you Daler paji ❤️🙏”

He also commented on Mika’s post, wishing Daler a speedy recovery and expressing confidence that the singer would soon return to performing with his usual energy.

“May god give Daler paji strength to recover fast and he will roar like a lion on stage soon. Shame on people who are spreading this fake news just for some views. God bless Daler paji,” Kapil wrote.

Mika Singh asks people to verify facts before making allegations

Mika Singh also defended his elder brother through a video message, urging media organisations and social media users to verify information before sharing claims about an artist.

He expressed disappointment over the way Daler was reportedly addressed on stage and questioned whether allegations should be circulated without first checking the facts or giving the performer an opportunity to explain his side.

Mika also compared the situation to how an international act such as Coldplay might be treated, arguing that artists deserve respect and fair treatment regardless of the circumstances surrounding a performance.

Speaking about Daler’s health, Mika said that his brother had been unwell for the past two years and was still recovering. He also maintained that Daler does not consume alcohol, rejecting the suggestion that drinking was responsible for his behaviour on stage.

Mika further pointed out that backing tracks are commonly used by performers, but said that artists should not be judged without considering the circumstances of a particular performance.

What did Uttarakhand minister Subodh Uniyal say?

The controversy centres on Daler Mehndi’s performance at the Maa Kunjapuri Mela in Tehri Garhwal, organised as part of the Navratri festivities.

Uttarakhand Cabinet Minister and Narendra Nagar MLA Subodh Uniyal questioned the singer’s performance, alleging that Daler appeared disoriented, struggled to remain standing and was lip-syncing to his songs.

Speaking to ANI, Uniyal said he had expected the well-known singer to do justice to his art. He also referred to the reported payment of ₹35 lakh for the performance, arguing that the audience had not received the live singing they could reasonably expect.

The minister said he had expressed his displeasure because he believed the performance did not meet the standard expected from an artist of Daler’s stature.

However, the allegation that Daler was under the influence of alcohol has not been independently established in the information provided. Uttarakhand folk singer and Padma Shri awardee Pritam Bhartwan also reportedly said he could not confirm whether Daler had consumed alcohol.

Fans and colleagues rally behind Daler Mehndi

As the video circulated online, the incident triggered a wider debate about public criticism of performers, the use of backing tracks and the importance of understanding an artist’s health before judging a performance.

Kapil Sharma’s message focused on compassion, asking people to remember that a short video may not reveal the complete circumstances behind someone’s behaviour. Mika Singh similarly called for fact-checking and a chance for the artist to present his side.

The episode has also drawn attention to Daler Mehndi’s reported health struggles. While the minister questioned the quality of the performance, Kapil and Mika have urged people to consider the singer’s recovery and avoid spreading claims without sufficient verification.

For now, the controversy remains centred on competing accounts of what happened on stage. Kapil’s public support and Mika’s defence have added another dimension to the discussion, with both calling for kindness and a more careful approach before conclusions are drawn about Daler Mehndi’s health or conduct.
