Lauren Sánchez Bezos, who served as one of the honorary chairs of the Met Gala 2026 alongside Jeff Bezos, shared an unusual and physically demanding detail about her preparation for fashion’s biggest night.
Speaking to Vogue, she revealed that her Met Gala prep went far beyond fittings and styling sessions. Instead, she spent time at the New York Fire Department, where she actively participated in their training program.

“I went to visit the New York Fire Department and did their training,” she said. “It’s probably the most unique Met prep ever.”
Her training reportedly included wearing full firefighter gear, crawling through smoke-filled obstacle courses, and practicing basic life-saving drills. Sánchez Bezos described the experience as intense but rewarding, saying, “It was bananas, but I loved it.”
Interestingly, she also noted that the physically demanding session led to an unintended result—she lost about 1 kilogram (roughly 2 pounds) during the process.
Beyond her preparation, Lauren Sánchez Bezos also turned heads on the red carpet in an off-shoulder Schiaparelli gown featuring jewel-encrusted straps and a plunging neckline. The look was designed in collaboration with Daniel Roseberry, creative director of Schiaparelli, and styled with input from celebrity stylist Law Roach.
Her outfit drew inspiration from John Singer Sargent’s famous painting Madame X, a reference that influenced the silhouette and delicate strap detailing of her gown. Sánchez Bezos explained that the concept reflected the idea of fashion as art, aligning perfectly with the Met Gala 2026 theme, “Costume Art.”
She added that the design process began with conversations about her personality and style, which were then translated into the final couture piece.
With her unconventional preparation and symbolic red carpet look, Sánchez Bezos stood out not only as an event chair but also as one of the most talked-about figures of the night.
