Neelam Kothari Opens Up on Parenting Journey; Reveals Strict Rule for Daughter Ahana
Neelam Kothari has shared insights into her evolving parenting style, reflecting on how she transitioned from being a strict mother to adopting a more relaxed and friendly approach with her daughter, Ahana Panday.
The actress, who is married to actor Samir Soni, welcomed Ahana through adoption in 2013. In a recent interview with Etimes, Neelam spoke candidly about her parenting journey and how her outlook has changed over the years.
She revealed that in the early years of parenting, she was the stricter parent at home, while her husband Samir tended to be more lenient. Recalling everyday disagreements, she shared that small household issues often led to differing opinions between the two, especially regarding discipline and allowing their daughter freedom.
However, Neelam noted that her perspective has softened over time. She explained that both she and her husband are now more aligned in their approach, adding that she has realised many strict rules are not necessary for every situation. According to her, today’s generation of children are more aware, mature, and emotionally intelligent at an earlier age.
Despite her relaxed approach, Neelam highlighted one firm rule she continues to enforce at home—sleepovers. She shared that sleepovers are generally not allowed, except in rare cases involving trusted family friends living nearby, where parents are well known to them.
She further added that beyond this rule, their daughter is quite responsible, and the couple does not feel the need to impose many restrictions. Neelam expressed that Ahana has grown into a conscientious child, making parenting relatively smooth for them at this stage.
When asked about any regrets, the actress stated that she believes she has done well as a parent so far. While she acknowledged being strict in the early years, she feels it ultimately helped shape a balanced and positive upbringing.
Neelam’s reflections offer a glimpse into her personal life, highlighting the evolving dynamics of modern parenting and the balance between discipline and understanding.
