Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan have opened up about one of the most frightening experiences of their lives. The couple recently appeared together on the latest episode of Koffee With Karan, where they revisited the horrific knife attack on Saif at their Bandra home in January 2025. While Saif spoke about how he remained calm during the incident, Kareena recalled being completely traumatised after seeing her husband covered in blood.
During the conversation with host Karan Johar, the couple also addressed the conspiracy theories that questioned whether the attack was staged. Kareena strongly criticised such speculation, explaining how difficult and frightening the entire experience had been for her and their family.

Recalling the terrifying night, Kareena said she could not understand why people were questioning the authenticity of the incident. She pointed out that the police had investigated the case and arrested a suspect, making the conspiracy theories even more disturbing for the family.
Kareena revealed that she was so panicked that she ran out of the house in her night T-shirt and tried to find a rickshaw to get Saif to the hospital. She remembered screaming and running on the road while her husband was bleeding.
She also recalled seeing Saif inside the lift and telling him, “Don’t do this.” The moment was particularly emotional for the family because their son, Taimur, witnessed the situation and asked his father, “Abba are you going to die?”
‘I was a wreck, he was fine’: Kareena on Saif’s recovery
Saif, meanwhile, described the incident as “the worst night in the history of nights.” He said he remained relatively calm and composed throughout the ordeal, even as the situation became increasingly serious.
Kareena recalled the severity of his injuries and explained that Saif was unable to walk properly. She also spoke about the difficult surgery, during which doctors had to move nerves to remove a piece of the knife lodged in his spine.
“I was a wreck, he was fine,” Kareena said, describing the contrast between her emotional state and Saif’s composure.
The actor also shared a touching detail about their younger son, Jeh, who witnessed the incident. According to Kareena, Jeh later gifted Saif his plastic sword so that his father could protect himself in the future. She added that Jeh looks at Saif as some kind of Iron Man, showing how the child sees his father as a superhero.
What happened during the Saif Ali Khan knife attack?
The incident took place in the early hours of January 16, 2025, when an intruder allegedly entered Saif and Kareena’s 12th-floor apartment in Bandra through the fire escape.
According to the prosecution’s account, the intruder first confronted Eliyama Philip, the nurse looking after the couple’s younger son, Jehangir. He allegedly warned her not to make any noise and attacked her when she attempted to pick up the child.
When Philip asked what he wanted, the intruder allegedly demanded money and said he needed ₹1 crore. Her screams alerted Saif and Kareena, who rushed towards the room. During the confrontation, Saif was allegedly attacked.
The actor suffered six stab wounds, including a serious injury to his thoracic spinal cord. A 2.5-inch piece of the knife was lodged in his spine and had to be removed during emergency surgery at Lilavati Hospital. He also underwent treatment for injuries to his hand and neck, including plastic surgery. Saif was discharged from the hospital five days after the attack.
Accused arrested, investigation follows
Mumbai Police arrested Mohammad Shariful Islam in Thane two days after the incident. Police alleged that he was a Bangladeshi national staying illegally in India and had been using the name Vijay Das.
Islam is facing charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to alleged armed robbery, causing grievous hurt and house-trespass. The case also includes charges under the Foreigners Act and the Passport (Entry into India) Rules.
By revisiting the incident on Koffee With Karan, Saif and Kareena have offered a deeply personal account of the fear and uncertainty their family experienced that night.
