Raja Shivaji: Parijat Nath Inspired by Saibai’s Character Made in Just 24 Hours
Genelia Deshmukh’s portrayal of Maharani Saibai in the historical drama Raja Shivaji has drawn attention for its detailing, especially the intricate jewellery pieces designed for her character. Among them, the most talked-about accessory is the parijat nath, a specially crafted nose ornament that was conceptualised and completed in just 24 hours.
The film, which released in theatres on May 1, 2026, is a large-scale historical action drama based on the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Directed and co-written by Riteish Deshmukh, it also features Genelia Deshmukh as producer and actor, alongside an ensemble cast including Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Vidya Balan, and others.
Inspiration Behind the Parijat Nath
The design of the nath was inspired by the parijat flower, a white, fragrant bloom known for its cultural and spiritual symbolism in India. The flower is unique—it blossoms at night and falls by morning, often representing fleeting beauty and natural grace.
For Maharani Saibai’s character, designers aimed to reflect this delicate symbolism. The jewellery brand Mortantra revealed that the brief was to create a piece that captures the essence of the flower and translates it into wearable art for the screen.

The 24-Hour Design Challenge
According to the jewellery team, the concept began with a simple message on WhatsApp from the film’s production team, along with a reference image of the parijat flower.
The request was straightforward yet ambitious: design a nath inspired by the flower that would suit Genelia Deshmukh’s royal character.
Without hesitation, the team responded positively to the challenge—even before the full idea was discussed—setting off an intense 24-hour creative process.
Materials and Craftsmanship
To bring the design to life in such a short time, artisans used carefully selected materials:
- White freshwater pearls to form the floral structure
- A coral bead representing the saffron-toned centre
- A subtle green detailing at the base to mimic natural stems
The final piece was designed to be lightweight, elegant, and screen-appropriate, while still retaining fine detailing to stand out in close-up shots.
The designers described it as “small enough to feel personal, detailed enough to hold its own on screen.”
Symbolism of the Design
Beyond aesthetics, the parijat nath was meant to reflect Maharani Saibai’s character arc in the film. Just like the parijat flower—beautiful, short-lived, and deeply fragrant—the jewellery symbolises grace, emotional depth, and quiet strength.
The design was intended to subtly reinforce the character’s identity without overpowering the narrative, blending storytelling with traditional craftsmanship.
