Bollywood actor Sohail Khan recently opened up about a special and emotional chapter from his personal life during his appearance on Kunal Kemmu’s reality show Alliance. The actor reunited with his former wife Seema Sajdeh on the show, where they spoke about their journey, family, and memories from their time together.
During a conversation about their children, Sohail revealed an interesting story behind naming their elder son, Nirvaan Khan. The actor shared that when Seema was pregnant, the couple had jokingly decided that Sohail would choose the name if they had a boy, while Seema would name their daughter if they welcomed a girl.
Sohail surprised everyone by revealing that he had a very different name in mind for his son.
He said, “When Seema was carrying Nirvaan, we had decided jokingly that if it was a boy, I would keep the name, and if it was a girl, Seema would decide. I wanted to name my son Ram Khan. We are very secular that way.”
The actor explained that he wanted a name that reflected his inclusive beliefs and his family’s respect for different cultures and traditions.
However, destiny had another plan. Sohail shared that after Seema gave birth, she already had a name in her mind. Recalling the moment, he said that when Seema regained consciousness after delivery, the doctor informed them that they had a baby boy. Sohail entered the room, and Seema, while still drowsy, asked him, “How’s Nirvaan doing?”
That spontaneous moment touched Sohail’s heart, and he decided not to change the name.
The actor also revealed that the name Nirvaan perfectly matches his son’s personality. According to Sohail, just like his own name, Nirvaan is calm and composed by nature.

Sohail Khan and Seema Sajdeh got married in 1998 after reportedly eloping against their families’ wishes. The couple spent more than two decades together and welcomed two sons, Nirvaan Khan and Yohaan Khan.
After years of marriage, Sohail and Seema officially parted ways in 2022. Despite their separation, the two have continued to maintain a respectful relationship and have focused on co-parenting their children.
During their reunion on Alliance, Sohail revealed that while their romantic relationship ended, he still holds immense respect for Seema. He also shared that their sons currently live with him, while Seema regularly visits them.

Sohail has also previously spoken about his elder son Nirvaan’s interest in acting. In an interview with Pinkvilla in 2024, the actor shared his thoughts on how young actors should learn from experienced performers.
Sohail expressed that instead of immediately becoming assistant directors, aspiring actors should spend time observing established actors and understanding the craft.
He said he would love for Nirvaan to learn from experienced artists like Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi, Shahid Kapoor, and Nana Patekar by observing their work and performances.
