Yami Gautam’s Dhurandhar 2 Cameo Pays Subtle Tribute to Haq and Uri: The Surgical Strike

Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar 2 has been making waves at the box office, not just for its high-octane action and star-studded cast, but also for intriguing Easter eggs for attentive viewers. Among the highlights is a cameo by Yami Gautam, which cleverly references two of her previous films – Haq and Uri: The Surgical Strike.

Yami Gautam’s Cameo in Dhurandhar 2

In the film, Yami portrays a nurse operating undercover as an Indian agent in Pakistan. While her screen time is brief, keen-eyed viewers will notice that her uniform bears the name tag “Shazia Bano”, a nod to her character in Haq, the courtroom drama directed by Suparn Verma. This subtle reference serves as a fun Easter egg for longtime fans.

The Uri Connection

Yami’s cameo also recalls her role in Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019), where she played RAW officer Pallavi Sharma, initially posing as a nurse named Jasmine. The undercover nurse-turned-agent theme in Dhurandhar 2 mirrors this narrative beat, creating a layered connection between her previous work and her cameo. Notably, Uri marked Yami Gautam’s first collaboration with director Aditya Dhar, who later became her husband, adding a personal dimension to the cameo.

About Haq

Haq, directed by Suparn Verma, is a courtroom drama inspired by the landmark Supreme Court judgment in Mohd Ahmed Khan v. Shah Bano Begum. Yami Gautam starred alongside Emraan Hashmi, playing the character Shazia Bano – the same name she briefly uses in Dhurandhar 2.

Box Office Performance

Dhurandhar 2 has enjoyed a phenomenal opening. On its first Monday, it earned ₹65 crore from 20,382 shows, surpassing the ₹500 crore mark domestically within five days. By the end of day five, the domestic net collection stood at ₹519.12 crore, with the worldwide gross climbing to ₹829.76 crore, according to Sacnilk.

The film began its extended weekend with ₹102.55 crore on March 19, followed by ₹80.72 crore on March 20 and ₹113 crore on March 21. The Hindi version collected ₹60 crore on its first Monday, while Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Tamil versions contributed ₹3.50 crore, ₹0.15 crore, ₹0.15 crore, and ₹1.20 crore respectively. Dhurandhar 2 was allotted 21,633 shows across India on March 19, earning ₹114.85 crore domestically on that day alone.

Yami Gautam’s cameo is a clever blend of homage and nostalgia, delighting fans familiar with her earlier roles while enriching the narrative tapestry of Dhurandhar 2.
