Emraan Hashmi has put an end to reports linking him to the upcoming biopic on legendary music composer R.D. Burman. The actor clarified that he has neither been approached for the project nor has he signed on to play veteran comedian-actor Mehmood.
Rumours about Hashmi’s casting began circulating online, with reports claiming that the actor would portray Mehmood in the much-awaited film based on R.D. Burman’s life and musical journey. The speculation quickly caught attention, given Mehmood’s iconic status in Hindi cinema and Hashmi’s reputation for taking on diverse roles.
However, Hashmi was quick to address the reports himself. Taking to X, the actor directly denied the claims and asked people to disregard the information being circulated.
“Just to clarify, the reports about me playing Mehmood saab in a biopic are untrue. I haven’t been approached for the film, nor am I doing it,” Emraan wrote.
His clarification makes it clear that there is currently no discussion between him and the makers regarding the role. The actor’s statement also comes as a reminder of how quickly casting rumours surrounding highly anticipated Bollywood projects can spread online before anything is officially confirmed.
The reported R.D. Burman biopic has been generating curiosity because of the legendary composer’s enormous contribution to Indian music. Known affectionately as Pancham Da, Burman transformed the sound of Hindi film music with his experimental compositions, innovative arrangements and ability to blend Indian sounds with influences from across the world.
Mehmood, meanwhile, was one of Hindi cinema’s most celebrated comic performers. Over the course of his career, he appeared in numerous memorable films and became known for his distinctive comic timing and screen presence. His association with R.D. Burman is also noteworthy in the context of the era in which both artists worked and the vibrant film industry of the time.
For now, however, Emraan Hashmi will not be part of the project, at least according to his own clarification. Fans will have to wait for an official announcement from the filmmakers regarding the cast and the actor who will eventually take on the role of Mehmood.
Hashmi’s direct response has effectively cleared the air around the casting speculation, while interest in the R.D. Burman biopic continues to build.
