As Cocktail 2 gears up for its theatrical release, one rumour surrounding the film refuses to fade away. Ever since the first glimpse of the movie was unveiled, social media has been buzzing with speculation that the story revolves around a romantic relationship between Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna’s characters.

However, the film’s leading ladies have once again clarified that there is no truth to the rumours — and they did so with plenty of humour.

During a recent promotional event for Cocktail 2, Rashmika Mandanna was left in splits when a fan asked whether the film features a lesbian love story. The actress struggled to contain her laughter as the question was raised yet again.

Before Rashmika could respond, Kriti Sanon quickly stepped in and said, “There is no lesbian story.”

Still laughing, Rashmika jokingly added, “I know, we do have that chemistry,” sending the audience into another round of laughter.

Kriti then offered a playful explanation about the film’s relationship dynamics. “We are three straight people, guys. It’s only an emotional threesome, not physical,” she said, referring to the complicated bond shared by the three lead characters played by Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna.

The clarification comes after months of speculation that followed the film throughout its production. Despite numerous reports linking Kriti and Rashmika’s characters romantically, neither the cast nor the makers had ever confirmed such a storyline.

Interestingly, the film’s director Homi Adajania had previously revealed how the rumour may have started. During the trailer launch, he explained that the idea emerged from a light-hearted conversation on set. According to him, the team joked about a version of the story where Kriti and Rashmika’s characters were together and Shahid Kapoor’s character was the third wheel.

Homi admitted that he found the hypothetical idea interesting and wouldn’t mind making such a film in the future, but stressed that Cocktail 2 is not based on that concept.

Producer Dinesh Vijan also dismissed the rumours, stating that the film revolves around traditional romantic relationships and emotional conflicts rather than the storyline fans had imagined.

Directed by Homi Adajania, Cocktail 2 is a spiritual successor to the 2012 blockbuster Cocktail, which starred Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty. While it carries the same youthful and relationship-driven vibe, the new film introduces an entirely fresh story and a new set of characters.

With the film set to hit theatres on June 19, the makers are hoping audiences will discover the real story for themselves rather than believe the rumours that have dominated headlines for months.
