Dhruv Jurel on No. 3 Role: “It’s Just a Number,” Says RR Wicketkeeper-Batter After Match-Winning Knock
Rajasthan Royals wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel has opened up about his evolving batting role in the IPL, saying that batting positions mean little to him as long as he can contribute to the team’s success.
Jurel, who has been promoted to No. 3 this season, continued his impressive form with a composed unbeaten 81 off 43 balls against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Walking in early during a tricky chase of 202, he anchored the innings to perfection and guided Rajasthan Royals to a comfortable six-wicket win in just 18 overs.
With two half-centuries in four innings, Jurel has quickly adapted to his new responsibility at the top order, playing a key role in Rajasthan’s unbeaten run this season.
“It’s Just a Number,” Says Jurel
Speaking after the match, Jurel made it clear that he is not fixated on batting positions.
“I was batting at No. 5-6 last year. At the end, you have to win the match. The management showed faith in me to promote me to No. 3. It’s just a number, I would say. I don’t want a particular number,” he said.
“My character is like that. Even if you give me No. 8 or 9, I will happily contribute, even if it means hitting the winning six. Wherever the team needs me, I’m there.”
Thriving Alongside Explosive Openers
Coming in after the explosive start provided by Yashasvi Jaiswal and teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Jurel acknowledged that batting at No. 3 can be challenging but also rewarding.
Sooryavanshi’s blazing 78 off 26 balls once again set the tone early, making the chase look almost effortless inside the powerplay. Jurel admitted that watching the youngster bat so freely creates a unique mindset in the middle.
“When Vaibhav is smashing every ball, you feel like nothing is happening on the wicket. But at the same time, it gives you confidence too,” he said.
He also recalled a key moment during the innings when RR accelerated further, saying he reminded himself to “cash in” during a 24-run over that helped push the chase forward.
Building a Strong Top Order at RR
Jurel highlighted the strength of Rajasthan Royals’ batting lineup, noting the impact of experienced players like Ravindra Jadeja, who has added depth to the middle order since joining the team setup.
“Jadeja bhai is a big name. His experience helps a lot, and talking to him makes batting easier,” Jurel said.
Praise for Ravi Bishnoi’s Impact
Jurel also praised spinner Ravi Bishnoi, who has been instrumental with the ball this season. Bishnoi’s ability to strike in the middle overs, including a key dismissal of Virat Kohli, has strengthened RR’s bowling attack.
Having known Bishnoi since their Under-19 days, Jurel emphasized their strong communication on the field.
“He listens to me from behind the stumps, so it’s a good partnership. It makes things easier for both of us,” he added.
RR Riding High on Momentum
With consistent contributions from both bat and ball, Rajasthan Royals continue their strong run in the tournament, with their top order dominating the run charts and the bowling unit delivering crucial breakthroughs.
Jurel’s form at No. 3, combined with RR’s aggressive batting approach, has made them one of the most formidable sides in the competition so far.
