A fresh controversy has erupted in the Indian Premier League after Chennai Super Kings (CSK) formally lodged a complaint with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) over alleged inappropriate in-stadium conduct during their clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
According to reports, CSK raised concerns about the DJ’s choice of music and remarks made during the match, particularly the playing of the viral track “Dosa, idli, sambar, chutney, chutney.” The song, often used in social media memes tied to South Indian stereotypes, was described by the franchise as being “not in good taste.”
A top IPL official confirmed that the governing council has acknowledged the complaint and is currently reviewing the matter. “We have received a complaint from CSK and are looking into it,” the official stated.
CSK managing director Kasi Viswanathan also voiced his displeasure, noting that while DJs are typically expected to energize the home crowd, the tone at the Bengaluru venue crossed a line. He alleged that certain remarks were made against CSK players, prompting the franchise to escalate the issue to the BCCI.
“The DJs are usually around to support the home team. But at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, it was different. Certain comments were made against our players,” Viswanathan said, emphasizing the need for oversight.
The controversy is further amplified by the song’s history in the CSK-RCB rivalry. Composed by musician Gana Appu, the track has frequently been used by fans online. Last year, an RCB-related social media post featuring Jitesh Sharma singing the song had also drawn criticism from CSK supporters.
CSK officials also expressed concern over comments made by the DJ following the dismissal of their players during the match, stating that such behavior undermines the spirit of the game. “They are not there to undermine the rivals or insult them,” a team official remarked.
The incident has added a new layer of tension to the already intense rivalry between the two franchises, raising broader questions about fan engagement, stadium conduct, and the responsibilities of matchday presenters.
On the field, RCB’s victory helped them climb to the top of the IPL points table, while CSK currently find themselves struggling in eighth place with 4 points from five matches.
