Amitabh Bachchan is reportedly planning to build a Dharamshala with more than 20 rooms in Ayodhya in memory of his father, legendary poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan. The reported plan has attracted attention because the project is being seen as a way for the veteran actor to honour his father’s memory.
According to reports by India Today, an application seeking approval for the building layout has been submitted to the Ayodhya Development Authority (ADA). The proposed property is reportedly located in the Saryu project area along Dashrath Path.
Reports suggest that Amitabh Bachchan acquired the land for around ₹15 crore. The Ayodhya Development Authority has reportedly issued a public notice inviting objections to the proposed construction. If the necessary approvals are received, construction is expected to begin in October.
The proposed Dharamshala is expected to have more than 20 rooms and could provide accommodation for visitors coming to Ayodhya. Beyond the construction itself, the project has also drawn attention because of its connection to Harivansh Rai Bachchan.
Harivansh Rai Bachchan remains one of the most respected names in Hindi literature, and his poetry continues to be remembered by readers across generations. For Amitabh, who has often spoken about his father and his influence on his life, creating something in his memory would carry a deeply personal meaning.
The reported project also shows how celebrities can choose different ways to preserve the memory of their parents. Instead of simply remembering his father through photographs or personal belongings, Amitabh’s reported plan could create a space that may also serve other people visiting the holy city.
For a family that has remained closely connected with literature and cinema, a project associated with Harivansh Rai Bachchan in Ayodhya could become another lasting reminder of his legacy. If the necessary approvals are granted and the construction begins as expected, the Dharamshala could eventually become a meaningful tribute from a son to his father.
What makes the story particularly emotional is the thought behind the project. Amitabh Bachchan has spent decades building his own legacy, but a project dedicated to his father would also reflect the importance of family and the influence of the generation that came before him.
