An IndiGo flight travelling from Dubai to Mumbai made an emergency landing at Rajkot International Airport on Monday after smoke was detected in the aircraft’s cargo hold during the journey.
According to airport officials, the flight crew noticed the smoke alert while the aircraft was in the air and immediately followed standard safety procedures. As a precaution, the pilot decided to divert the flight to Rajkot instead of continuing to Mumbai.
The aircraft landed safely at Rajkot International Airport without any incident. Airport authorities confirmed that all passengers and crew members were safe, and emergency services were kept on standby as part of the standard protocol for such situations.
Rajkot Airport Director Diganta Borah said the diversion was purely a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of everyone on board. He added that the aircraft is now undergoing a detailed technical inspection to determine what triggered the smoke alert in the cargo hold.
After landing, passengers were safely deboarded while engineers and technical teams began examining the aircraft. Officials are investigating whether the smoke warning was caused by a technical malfunction or another issue.
