For his upcoming film Love & War, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the actor reportedly went through an intense physical transformation, first gaining 12 kilograms and later losing 15 kilograms to portray different phases of his character.
The much-awaited period drama stars Vicky alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt and is currently in the final stages of production. While the makers have kept the story under wraps, industry buzz suggests that Vicky and Ranbir play Indian Air Force officers in the film.
According to sources close to the production, Vicky completely committed himself to the demanding role. To portray the character in the early portions of the film, he gained nearly 12 kilograms. As filming progressed, he underwent a rigorous fitness routine and strict diet to lose around 15 kilograms for the emotional climax.
The dramatic transformation reportedly required months of disciplined training, carefully monitored nutrition, and intense workout sessions. Those associated with the project say Vicky approached the challenge with remarkable dedication, determined to bring authenticity to the role.
This isn’t the first time the actor has pushed his physical limits for a film. In 2025, Vicky received widespread praise for transforming himself to play Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in the blockbuster Chhava. His commitment to physically adapting to his characters has become one of the defining aspects of his acting career.
Love & War also marks an important milestone for Vicky, as it is his first collaboration with acclaimed filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The film brings together an impressive cast, with Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt sharing screen space alongside him.

Originally announced in 2024, Love & War has faced multiple delays due to its grand scale and elaborate production. The makers have now locked January 21, 2027, as the film’s theatrical release date, positioning it for the Republic Day weekend.
