The uncertainty came after his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), which recently emerged as a strong political force in the state elections, was reportedly asked to prove majority support before forming the government.

On Thursday, several supporters gathered at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai, where the swearing-in ceremony was believed to be scheduled. Many arrived early in the morning, expecting a historic oath-taking event.
However, as the day passed, the gates remained closed and no official confirmation of the ceremony was given, leaving fans confused and emotional.
A video shared by PTI showed one supporter breaking down in tears outside the venue. She said she had travelled alone without informing her family, believing the event would take place.
“I came here without telling anyone… I thought everything was confirmed. I am shocked and confused,” she said, visibly distressed.

According to reports, the Governor has asked TVK to demonstrate written support of at least 118 MLAs out of the 234-member Assembly before proceeding with government formation.
While TVK won 108 seats and later formed an alliance with Congress, taking the tally to 112, it still falls short of the required majority threshold, leading to the current political deadlock.
The delay has triggered protests in parts of Tamil Nadu, with supporters demanding clarity on the government formation process.
