Actor Bobby Deol recently took a nostalgic trip down memory lane, sharing amusing behind-the-scenes stories from some of his most popular films and co-stars. During a candid conversation, the actor recalled everything from playful arguments with Twinkle Khanna and Rani Mukerji to his friendship with Preity Zinta. However, it was his hilarious anecdote involving Manisha Koirala during the shooting of the 1997 thriller Gupt that left fans laughing.
Bobby, who starred alongside Manisha Koirala and Kajol in the cult classic Gupt: The Hidden Truth, remembered an awkward moment while filming a romantic sequence with Manisha. According to the actor, the incident happened during a song shoot on a cold day when Manisha was enjoying a plate of spicy street-style snacks.
“There was someone selling chana zor garam on the set, and Manisha was eating it with great enthusiasm,” Bobby recalled with a laugh. The problem arose when the duo had to shoot an intimate sequence shortly afterward.
The actor revealed that the scene required Manisha to come very close to him and even bite his chin as part of the choreography. However, Bobby found it difficult to focus because of the strong smell of onions from the snack she had just eaten.
“I couldn’t give any expressions because all I could smell were onions,” he joked, adding that the situation left him wondering how he could get back at his co-star.
Determined to play a harmless prank, Bobby later convinced another actor in a college scene to eat plenty of onions before shooting with Manisha. He mischievously told the newcomer that onions would somehow improve his acting performance.
“I made him eat so many onions before the shot,” Bobby said. “But it made absolutely no difference to Manisha. Looking back, we were all so immature at that age.”
Apart from the funny Gupt memory, Bobby also opened up about his equation with several leading actresses he worked with during the 1990s. Addressing old stories about disagreements with Twinkle Khanna during Barsaat, he clarified that their so-called fights were nothing more than youthful misunderstandings.
He also fondly remembered his friendship with Rani Mukerji, which blossomed during the shooting of Bichhoo. What started as a small argument over how their hair should flow during a song sequence eventually turned into a lasting friendship. Bobby praised Rani for her warmth and recalled how she often brought home-cooked food to the sets.
The actor also spoke about Preity Zinta, revealing that he had known her even before they worked together in Soldier. Bobby laughed while explaining why he nicknamed her “Pritam Singh,” a joke that later resurfaced online and amused both of them.
Today, Bobby looks back on those moments with affection, calling them memories of a different era in Bollywood when friendships, pranks, and youthful mischief were common on film sets.
On the work front, Bobby Deol is gearing up for the release of Anurag Kashyap’s action thriller Bandar. He will also be seen in Alpha, alongside Alia Bhatt and Sharvari Wagh, one of the most anticipated projects in the YRF Spy Universe.
As fans continue to enjoy his successful second innings in cinema, Bobby’s light-hearted stories offer a glimpse into the fun and camaraderie that existed behind the scenes of some of Bollywood’s most memorable films.
