After facing a wave of online trolling over her Hindi-speaking struggles at a promotional event for Ek Din, actress Sai Pallavi has broken her silence and her response is not the one most people expected. Rather than dismissing the criticism or fighting back, she acknowledged what the trolls were saying and went even further, admitting she felt she was the wrong choice for the role altogether.
Last month, the makers of Ek Din hosted a musical evening in Mumbai titled Ek Din ki Mehfil — a live performance event celebrating the film. When Sai Pallavi addressed the audience, she visibly struggled to speak in Hindi, drawing sharp criticism across social media.

The trolling quickly escalated beyond the event itself. Many social media users also began questioning whether she was the right fit to play Sita in Nitesh Tiwari’s highly anticipated Ramayana: Part I, adding fuel to an already intense backlash.

“I think I am miscast” — Sai Pallavi’s own verdict

In a video posted on the Aamir Khan Talkies YouTube channel, Sai Pallavi spoke candidly to co-star Junaid Khan about a conversation she had with Aamir Khan at the film’s premiere. What she said stopped many in their tracks.

“I don’t think I was meant to do this and I think I am miscast. I feel so; I think it should have been a new person who had a little bit of flamboyance.”— Sai Pallavi

Junaid Khan, however, was quick to push back on her self-doubt, firmly dismissing her concerns and insisting that she was absolutely meant to play the role.

Why Sai Pallavi said yes to Ek Din movie

Sai Pallavi also explained the personal reason behind her decision to take on the film and it had nothing to do with scale, stardom or a Bollywood debut strategy.

“It is not about the scale of a film that drives me. At that point of time in my life, I had done a lot of films which were heavy and I wanted to do something that was light… that did not have me carry a lot of trauma through the making and even after. So when the script came along, I thought this is going to be in the zone of Before Sunrise. Because I like Before Sunrise and I thought this is going to be like that.”— Sai Pallavi

The honesty in that explanation says a great deal. She was not chasing a Hindi film debut she was chasing lightness. A break from the emotionally heavy roles she had been carrying for years.

“This is Sai Pallavi’s official Hindi cinema debut, where the makers placed her name above Junaid Khan’s in the credits. She commits fully to playing Meera… She drinks, is reckless, is non-judgemental, is a collector of Snow Miku figurines, and dances like a dream. Sai Pallavi, however, deserved more.”In an industry where actors rarely admit to anything that could be perceived as a misstep, Sai Pallavi’s willingness to call herself miscast before anyone else could is a kind of quiet courage. Whether it was the right role or not, her honesty about it has earned her more respect than any box office number could.
