Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s Fearless Batting Earns Praise, Ian Bishop Warns of Mitchell Starc Test Ahead
Rajasthan Royals’ teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has quickly become one of the most talked-about names in the Indian Premier League 2026, thanks to his fearless approach against some of the world’s best fast bowlers.
The 15-year-old has already built a reputation for attacking intent from ball one, often opening his scoring with aggressive shots and boundaries. In one of the standout moments of his early IPL career, Sooryavanshi famously struck a six off the very first ball he faced from India’s spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, a moment that instantly went viral and established his bold mindset on the big stage.
He has also shown no hesitation against elite pace attacks, taking on bowlers like Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins, further reinforcing his reputation as an unusually fearless young batter.
Ian Bishop’s warning ahead of Mitchell Starc challenge
However, ahead of Rajasthan Royals’ upcoming clash against Delhi Capitals on Friday, former West Indies fast bowler Ian Bishop has cautioned that Sooryavanshi may face a different kind of challenge when he comes up against Australian pacer Mitchell Starc.
Speaking on ESPNCricinfo, Bishop acknowledged the teenager’s exceptional confidence but suggested that Starc would approach the contest with a more detailed plan.
“No, I think you have to give Mitchell Starc credit. He’ll come better prepared; he won’t be Jasprit Bumrah,” Bishop said.
The comment has added further intrigue to the upcoming face-off, especially given Sooryavanshi’s tendency to take on bowlers from the very first delivery.
A fearless approach under the spotlight
Bishop, however, was full of praise for the youngster’s temperament and technique, noting that his aggressive batting style and unique bat swing make him a difficult batter to plan against.
He also highlighted that while some bowlers have found temporary success with back-of-a-length deliveries, Sooryavanshi has often countered those plans effectively when he gets going.
“It’s very hard to see exactly what his weakness is… if you don’t get that back-of-a-length delivery right, those same balls disappear out of the park,” Bishop observed.
According to him, the biggest challenge for opposition teams has been adapting mid-game, with several experienced bowlers forced to constantly shift tactics against the teenager.
Rising anticipation for Starc vs Sooryavanshi
With Sooryavanshi’s fearless reputation growing rapidly, the upcoming duel against Starc has become one of the most anticipated match-ups of the fixture. Whether the teenager continues his trend of explosive starts or faces his toughest test yet will be closely watched.
For now, IPL 2026 has already found one of its most exciting young storylines — and it is only just beginning.
