Shreyas Iyer has reaffirmed his ambitious goal of lifting the Indian Premier League 2026 trophy with Punjab Kings, while stressing the importance of staying grounded and focused on the present moment as the season progresses.

Under the leadership of Iyer and head coach Ricky Ponting, Punjab Kings have emerged as the standout team of IPL 2026 so far. The franchise remains unbeaten after five matches, registering four wins and one rain-affected no-result, placing them at the top of the points table.

“Mission is the trophy, but focus is the present”

Speaking on JioStar, Iyer emphasized that while winning the IPL title remains the ultimate objective, the team’s immediate focus is on staying in control of each moment rather than getting distracted by long-term outcomes.

He explained that players are encouraged to concentrate on self-improvement, maintain intensity in every match, and avoid being weighed down by past results or future expectations. According to him, consistent effort and team synergy will naturally lead to success.

Strong momentum for Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings have carried their dominant form into the season, including a commanding win over Mumbai Indians in their latest outing. MI posted a competitive total of 195/6, powered by a brilliant unbeaten century from Quinton de Kock and a strong supporting knock from Naman Dhir.

However, Punjab responded in style. Arshdeep Singh starred with the ball, picking up 3/22 and earning the Player of the Match award, restricting MI’s momentum.

Clinical chase led by Iyer and Prabhsimran

In reply, Punjab Kings chased down the target in emphatic fashion, finishing at 198/3 in just 16.3 overs. Opener Prabhsimran Singh played a destructive unbeaten knock of 80 off 39 balls, while Iyer anchored the innings with a fluent 66 off 35 deliveries.

The pair’s partnership proved decisive, dismantling the Mumbai bowling attack and continuing PBKS’s unbeaten run in the tournament.

Lessons from last season’s heartbreak

Punjab Kings had earlier reached the IPL 2025 final but fell short against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. That experience, according to insiders, has strengthened the team’s resolve this season.

Eye on consistency and composure

With momentum firmly on their side, Punjab Kings now look like serious contenders for the title. However, Iyer’s message remains clear: stay present, stay disciplined, and let performance—not pressure—shape the journey ahead.

As the season progresses, PBKS will aim to maintain their unbeaten streak and convert early dominance into a historic championship run.
