David Warner Arrested in Sydney Over Drink-Driving, Faces Court Appearance Amid PSL Campaign

Australian cricketer David Warner, currently playing for the Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), has been charged with drink-driving following an incident in Maroubra, Sydney. The 39-year-old former Australian opening batter was pulled over by New South Wales Police during a random breath test on Tuesday and was found to have a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.104, more than double the legal limit in Australia.

According to police reports, Warner attempted to stop and park his vehicle shortly before reaching the testing site, prompting officers to approach and conduct a roadside breath test. The positive result led to his arrest, and he was taken to Maroubra Police Station, where a second test confirmed the elevated BAC. Warner has been issued a Field Court Attendance Notice and is scheduled to appear at the Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday, May 7, 2026.

A statement from New South Wales Police detailed the sequence of events:

“About 5:30pm today, police were conducting stationary random breath testing on Malabar Road, Maroubra. A van was seen to allegedly stop short of the testing site and park. Officers approached the vehicle and subjected the driver – a 39-year-old man – to roadside testing which returned a positive result. He was arrested and taken to Maroubra Police Station where a second test allegedly returned a reading of 0.104. The man was issued with a Field Court Attendance Notice to appear before the Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday, 7 May 2026.”

The incident raises questions about Warner’s PSL campaign with the Karachi Kings. He had been granted brief personal leave to visit his family in Australia between fixtures, but this arrest could prompt franchise management to reconsider such allowances in the future.

Despite the off-field controversy, Warner has been instrumental for Karachi Kings this season, helping them secure three consecutive wins and top the PSL table. He has accumulated 93 runs so far, including a crucial half-century against Rawalpindi. The Kings are next scheduled to face Peshawar Zalmi on Thursday, April 9, at the National Stadium in Karachi.

While Warner’s legal proceedings unfold, both fans and cricket authorities will be closely watching how this incident impacts his availability and leadership role for Karachi Kings in the ongoing PSL season.
