Fresh violence has once again shaken the northeastern state of Manipur after a suspected rocket or mortar attack struck a civilian residence in the Bishnupur district, leaving two young children dead and their mother critically injured in the early hours of April 7.
The tragic incident took place in Tronglaobi Awang Leikai, a village in Moirang, which lies along the sensitive hill-valley boundary — an area that has witnessed repeated tensions amid the ongoing unrest in the state. According to preliminary reports, a projectile believed to have been fired from nearby hill regions struck the home of Oinam Malemnganba, a personnel of the Border Security Force, who was posted outside Manipur at the time of the attack.
Officials confirmed that the explosion claimed the lives of a five-year-old boy and his infant sister. Their mother sustained severe injuries and was immediately rushed to a nearby medical facility, where she remains in critical condition.
The incident has sparked renewed fear and outrage among residents, highlighting the vulnerability of civilians caught in the crossfire of the ongoing conflict. Security forces have since intensified deployment in and around the affected area to prevent further escalation and ensure public safety.
Authorities have launched a detailed investigation to determine the exact origin of the projectile and identify those responsible for the attack. As tensions continue to simmer in Manipur, this latest act of violence underscores the urgent need for peace and stronger measures to protect innocent lives.
The tragedy has drawn widespread concern, with many calling for swift action to bring those responsible to justice and restore stability in the region.
