Los Angeles, May 8, 2026 – Taylor Swift’s legal team has fired back aggressively against a trademark infringement lawsuit from Las Vegas cabaret performer Maren Flagg, dismissing the case as baseless and calling for it to be thrown out entirely.

Lawsuit Background

Maren Flagg, performing as Maren Wade, sued Swift on March 30 in U.S. District Court in California. She alleges Swift’s October 2025 album The Life of a Showgirl violates her 2015 trademark for “Confessions of a Showgirl,” used in her newspaper column, podcast, and national cabaret tour since 2014. Flagg claims the titles share similar structure and target overlapping entertainment markets, risking consumer confusion.

Swift’s Team Strikes Back

In a May 6 filing reported by Page Six and Variety, Swift’s attorneys labeled Flagg’s injunction request “absurd.” They argued no reasonable consumer would confuse Swift’s stadium-filling album and tour with Flagg’s small-venue cabaret shows at spots like 55+ golf resorts, RV parks, and 90-seat dinner theaters. The defense highlighted Flagg’s website lists no upcoming gigs and questioned her eight-month delay in seeking relief after the album’s announcement.

The filing accuses Flagg of exploiting Swift’s fame, noting her social media posts tying herself to the album for self-promotion. “This motion should never have been filed,” it states, urging dismissal.

Flagg’s Position

Flagg’s team plans to respond next week, standing firm on their claims of overlapping commercial impressions in entertainment services. This clash underscores tensions in celebrity branding, with Swift’s empire fresh off a record-breaking tour facing off against a niche performer’s long-held mark. Fans await the judge’s ruling as the pop icon eyes her next moves.
