Asha Bhosle to Be Cremated with Full State Honours in Mumbai; Final Rites at Shivaji Park Today
Mumbai, April 12 — Legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle, who reportedly passed away at the age of 92 following health complications, will be cremated with full state honours in Mumbai today. Her final rites are scheduled to take place at 4 pm at the Shivaji Park Crematorium.
A police parade contingent arrived earlier at her residence, Casa Grande in Lower Parel, to offer a final salute to the iconic singer whose voice defined generations of Indian music. The atmosphere outside her residence remained solemn as admirers gathered to pay their last respects.
Her mortal remains were placed in the lobby of the residential complex, allowing members of the public and well-wishers to offer their final tributes to the legendary artist.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is expected to attend the funeral in Dadar and pay his respects. The Chief Minister had earlier visited the residence on Sunday evening, after her body was brought from Breach Candy Hospital, where she was declared dead.
Earlier, her granddaughter Zanai Bhosle had informed that Asha Bhosle was admitted to hospital due to extreme exhaustion and a chest infection. She had requested privacy for the family while treatment was ongoing, assuring that updates would be shared when appropriate.
The news of her passing has triggered an outpouring of grief from across the country, with fans, artists, and public figures remembering her unmatched contribution to Indian music. Known for her extraordinary versatility, Asha Bhosle’s voice spanned decades, languages, and genres, leaving behind a legacy few can match.
