MS Dhoni-Inspired Mukul Choudhary Reveals Intense Practice Regime Behind LSG Heroics
Lucknow Super Giants’ rising star Mukul Choudhary has quickly become one of the most exciting finishers in IPL 2026, but behind his explosive performances lies a story of discipline, belief, and relentless practice inspired by none other than MS Dhoni.
The 21-year-old from Rajasthan announced himself in style with a stunning unbeaten 54 off 27 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens, guiding LSG to a thrilling last-ball victory. His innings, packed with seven sixes, showcased not just power but also composure far beyond his experience.
Built on hours of six-hitting practice
After the match, Mukul revealed the secret behind his incredible six-hitting ability—an intense and consistent training routine.
“Every day I hit around 100–150 sixes. For the last five-six months, I’ve been practising a lot and that has come into me,” he said.
The results were evident during the chase, as he dismantled the KKR bowling attack, scoring freely in the death overs and taking LSG from a difficult position to a memorable win.
Dhoni inspiration and the helicopter shot
Mukul has never hidden his admiration for MS Dhoni, particularly his finishing ability and iconic helicopter shot. That influence was clearly visible when he executed a stunning helicopter-style six off a yorker from Vaibhav Arora during the match.
“I have practised that shot since childhood… I always liked the way Dhoni finished. He used to hit a six even off a yorker,” Mukul explained.
For the young batter, Dhoni is more than just an idol—he is a blueprint for how to handle pressure and close out games.
Backed by Justin Langer’s belief
LSG head coach Justin Langer has been one of Mukul’s biggest supporters, even suggesting earlier that he could become one of India’s “scariest” middle-order batters.
That belief has translated into hands-on guidance, with Langer working closely with Mukul in training sessions.
“He made me practice with him for 10–15 minutes every day. He made me understand everything. He showed me his trust, and I wanted to deliver,” Mukul said.
The impact of that mentorship was clear in the KKR game, where Mukul single-handedly powered LSG’s late surge.
Learning to stay calm under pressure
While his power-hitting grabs attention, Mukul credits his improved temperament as a key factor in his success. He revealed a simple yet effective technique—deep breathing—to stay calm in high-pressure moments.
“When there are many things going around, I sit down for a few seconds, take 2–3 deep breaths, and just watch the ball,” he said.
That calmness was visible in the final over, where he reset himself before finishing the chase with confidence.
From domestic struggles to IPL spotlight
Mukul’s rise hasn’t been without challenges. He recalled a crucial innings in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he nearly pulled off a 25-run final over chase. That knock caught the attention of IPL scouts and eventually earned him a ₹2.60 crore contract with LSG.
Five months later, he delivered on a much bigger stage, proving he belongs at the highest level.
A journey shaped by sacrifice
Behind Mukul’s success is the unwavering support of his family. His father, Dalip, made immense sacrifices—including leaving his job and selling property—to support his son’s cricketing dream, while his mother reorganised her life around his training.
Mukul began his journey as a medium pacer before transitioning into a wicketkeeper-batter, where his natural power-hitting ability was discovered and nurtured.
A finisher in the making
Even as he enjoys his breakthrough moment, Mukul remains grounded, aware that consistency is key to long-term success.
“There will always be pressure… but it’s about believing in yourself and focusing on the process,” he said.
With inspiration from MS Dhoni, guidance from Justin Langer, and a relentless work ethic, Mukul Choudhary is rapidly emerging as one of India’s most promising finishers—one who could define games in the years to come.
