Manifestation and Leadership: Ishan Kishan Reflects on India Comeback and SRH Captaincy Ahead of IPL 2026

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) stand-in captain Ishan Kishan is ready to lead his side into the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season with clarity, calmness, and a focus on team-first cricket. Ahead of SRH’s opener against defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on March 28 at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Kishan opened up about his journey back to the Indian team, the power of manifestation, and his approach to leadership.

From Comeback to T20 World Cup Glory

Kishan made a surprise return to the Indian T20I side before the T20 World Cup, putting in scintillating performances both domestically and internationally. His hard work paid off with India lifting the T20 World Cup trophy, and Kishan personally earning two ‘Player of the Match’ awards. Reflecting on the journey, he said, “It was the best few days of my life. Joining the team suddenly and winning the World Cup was one of the most special moments. Everyone stepped up when it mattered the most.”

The turnaround came after a period outside the national setup, where Kishan was without a central contract due to limited domestic exposure. Yet, he remained steadfast, focusing on self-belief and consistent hard work. “There was always this feeling that I would make it to the team anyhow, because I knew the hard work I would put in was the most important thing. You always need to believe in yourself,” Kishan said.

Domestic Grind as the Foundation

Ishan’s leadership and form at the domestic level played a crucial role in shaping his comeback. As captain, he led Jharkhand to its maiden Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy title last year, scoring 517 runs in 10 innings with two centuries and two fifties. This performance underlined his ability to balance responsibility with personal excellence, setting the stage for his international resurgence.

Leadership Philosophy at SRH

With Pat Cummins recovering from injury, Kishan has stepped in as SRH captain. His mantra for leadership is simple: maintain a calm headspace and let players perform their natural game. “I’m going to keep it simple. All the players are very good; my role is to make sure they’re on the right track and in the right mindset. If one is calm, composed, and aware of what’s happening, they will do well for the team no matter what,” he said.

Kishan emphasised focusing on the present and taking one match at a time. “We just keep it simple, work hard before the match, enjoy the game, and take one match at a time. This season is about learning, growing together, and helping each other succeed,” he added.

Manifestation and the Power of Self-Belief

The India batter also spoke about the role of manifestation in his journey. Even when sidelined, he held a clear vision of making it back to the national side and focused on persistent effort and positive thinking. “This is a message to all players who might be losing track or doubting themselves. Believe in yourself and keep working hard—things will change,” Kishan concluded.

Recent Form

Ishan’s current form reflects his confidence and consistency. In 13 T20I matches this year, he has scored 532 runs at an average of 40.92, with a strike rate of 207, including a century and four fifties. His domestic and international performances set the stage for him to make a strong impact in IPL 2026, both as a leader and a star batter for SRH.
