Delhi Crackdown Exposes Illegal Steroid Distribution Network in Najafgarh

A major enforcement operation in Delhi’s Najafgarh has uncovered an illegal distribution network dealing in banned performance-enhancing drugs and expired health supplements, triggering a wider investigation into the supply chain of controlled substances in the capital.

The raid was conducted by a coordinated task force comprising Central Food Safety Officers, the Northern Regional Office of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), and local police, following a high-priority alert issued by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA).

Officials targeted a nutrition outlet allegedly operated by Gaurav Vats, where investigators discovered the unit functioning without the required licences under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, and the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The absence of regulatory approvals raised immediate red flags regarding the legality of its operations.

During the search, authorities seized a significant quantity of prohibited substances, including approximately 2,800 capsules and tablets and 11 injectable units classified as banned performance-enhancing drugs. Among the recovered items were anabolic steroids such as Methenolone Enanthate, Trenbolone, and Stanozolol, along with 300 Methandienone tablets and 850 Oxandrolone tablets.

Preliminary findings suggest the seized products were being distributed as performance enhancers, despite strict regulations prohibiting their sale and use without medical authorization. Officials have indicated that some of the recovered stock was also expired, further compounding concerns over public health risks.

NADA’s involvement in flagging the operation highlights growing scrutiny over the misuse of sports-related supplements and the illegal circulation of doping substances in fitness and bodybuilding circles. Authorities are now investigating potential links to a wider supply network operating across Delhi-NCR.

The premises have been sealed, and further forensic examination of the seized substances is underway. Officials have confirmed that strict legal action will be taken against all individuals found involved in the procurement, storage, or distribution of the banned materials.

The case adds to a series of recent crackdowns aimed at curbing the illegal steroid trade, which continues to pose serious health risks and undermines fair sporting practices.
