After winning audiences with his successful directorial debut Madgaon Express, actor-filmmaker Kunal Kemmu has officially confirmed that the sequel is moving forward. The actor revealed that he has completed writing the script for Madgaon Express 2, adding that the idea for a follow-up had been brewing since he was working on the first film.
In an exclusive conversation with News18, Kunal shared that the sequel was never an afterthought. Instead, he had deliberately planted the seeds for another chapter while writing the original story.
“I’ve finished writing Madgaon Express 2. Even when I was writing the first film, I had left a few loose ends because I wanted to revisit those characters if the story naturally evolved. I didn’t want to force a sequel, but I always hoped there would be room to continue their journey,” he said.
A Sequel Planned From The Beginning
Unlike many sequels that are announced only after the success of the first film, Madgaon Express 2 appears to have been part of Kunal’s long-term vision.
The filmmaker explained that while scripting the original movie, he intentionally left certain storylines open. These unresolved moments were designed to give him the flexibility to expand the narrative if audiences connected with the characters and the world he had created.
Following the overwhelming appreciation for Madgaon Express, Kunal felt the time was right to return to the story.
