Ishaan Khatter’s ‘Jugaadu’ Swaps Intensity for Comedy — And Tania’s Coming Along for the Ride

From Homebound’s Oscar-buzz silence to full-blown comedy chaos — Ishaan Khatter is switching lanes, and he’s doing it with a clapperboard half-covering his grin.

The actor just dropped the title of his next: Jugaadu, a comedy helmed by Gullak director Palash Vaswani. Cameras roll in Punjab later this month, and this isn’t just another film announcement — it’s Ishaan’s first proper dive into laugh-out-loud territory.

Ladies and gentlemen, get ready for JUGAADU,” Ishaan posted on Instagram, alongside a photo where the clapperboard steals half his face but none of the excitement. My first in and as! Cooking with an incredible and passionate team to bring you this riot of an entertainer in cinemas soon.

Translation: he’s not just acting in it. He’s leading the madness.

The Punjab Pitch
Jugaadu is heading straight to Punjab for its first schedule this month, after a mahurat ceremony in Mumbai on 30 April. The title itself — a nod to India’s favorite life hack — hints at a story built on jugaad, hustle, and maybe a few spectacularly bad ideas that somehow work.

Tania’s Bollywood Debut
Sharing the frame is Punjabi cinema’s beloved Tania, making her Bollywood entry as the leading lady. If you’ve seen her screen presence up north, you know Jugaadu just got a lot more watchable.

The Riot Squad
Backing Ishaan and Tania is a solid ensemble: Abhishek Banerjee, Jameel Khan, Vaibhav Raj Gupta, Yamini Dass, Sukhwinder Chahal, and Nirmal Rishi. With that lineup, expect sharp timing, rooted humor, and at least one character who becomes meme material by interval.

Behind the camera, Rangarajan Ramabadran handles DOP duties, while the film’s backed by Ramesh Taurani, Pammi Baweja, Harman Baweja, and Jaya Taurani under Tips Films and Baweja Studio. Palash Vaswani, fresh off Gullak’s slice-of-life success, is exactly the kind of director you want if you’re betting on comedy with heart.

From Oscars to One-Liners
Ishaan’s last outing was Neeraj Ghaywan’s Homebound in 2025, co-starring Vishal Jethwa and Janhvi Kapoor. That Dharma Productions drama — adapted from Basharat Peer’s 2020 New York Times piece — went all the way to the 98th Academy Awards shortlist for Best International Feature Film.

Now he’s trading festival-circuit weight for punchlines. And honestly? After watching him carry quiet devastation on screen, seeing him “cook” a comedy might be the plot twist 2026 needs.

No release date yet, but if the energy on Ishaan’s feed is anything to go by, Jugaadu plans to be loud, local, and unapologetically funny.

Bottom line: Bollywood’s getting a new comic lead, Punjab’s getting another film set, and Tania’s getting the Hindi debut she deserves. Keep your jugaad ready — this one’s rolling in soon.
