Kangana Ranaut Set to Reprise Iconic Role in Queen 2, Sequel to Begin Filming Soon

Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut is all set to return as the beloved Rani from the 2014 hit film Queen. Directed by Vikas Bahl, the original film, co-starring Rajkummar Rao and Lisa Haydon, won critical acclaim for its refreshing story of self-discovery and female empowerment. Kangana’s performance remains one of her most celebrated cinematic achievements.

According to reports, Queen 2 is expected to go on floors by the end of April 2026. While it is not a direct continuation of the original story, the sequel will retain the central themes of independence, self-exploration, and personal growth.

In a fresh take on Rani’s character, she will now be portrayed as a city girl navigating life in metropolitan India. A source from Mid Day revealed,

“In Queen 2, Kangana’s Rani will be a city girl unlike the small-town girl in the original. She will be smart, strong, and quirky, but a plot point will send her on the road of self-discovery… this journey will take her across cities in India.”

Kangana Ranaut will be the only returning cast member, with the rest of the ensemble comprising talented theatre actors, adding new energy and dimension to the film. The project will begin in a Mumbai studio, with subsequent shooting planned across other metro cities. The production is expected to follow a streamlined, start-to-finish schedule of three months.

Fans of the original are eager to see Rani’s new journey and how the film reimagines her growth in an urban setting while staying true to the themes that made the first Queen a cult favorite. With Kangana back in the lead role, expectations for Queen 2 are already soaring.
