Sunday’s 43-run defeat to defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru only amplified the concerns. RCB’s top order, led by Tim David and Rajat Patidar, tore into CSK’s bowling attack, posting a mammoth 250/3. Yet once again, Gaikwad refrained from using Veer in a bowling role.
CSK’s Own ‘Cameron Green’ Moment?
Critics have compared CSK’s handling of Veer to Kolkata Knight Riders’ treatment of Australian all-rounder Cameron Green, who was signed for ₹25.20 crore but has yet to bowl in the tournament due to a lower-back injury sustained during the T20 World Cup 2026. While KKR’s cautious approach is injury-driven, CSK have no such restrictions for Veer, making his underutilization all the more puzzling.
Despite this tactical concern, it is still early days in IPL 2026. CSK have time to reflect on their mistakes, make adjustments, and bounce back. Analysts suggest that giving Veer the full opportunity to perform as an all-rounder could be key to reversing their fortunes.
