Actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu has never shied away from speaking about her battle with myositis, the autoimmune condition that forced her to take a break from work. While promoting her upcoming film Maa Inti Bangaram, Samantha once again got candid about the health challenges she faced and the impact they had on her daily life.

The actor revealed that one of the biggest struggles during her recovery was food. For nearly two years, she had to follow an extremely restricted diet because certain foods could trigger her condition.

Speaking about the constant comments regarding her weight loss, Samantha said people often assume she chooses not to eat, without knowing the reality behind her situation.

“People always ask me why I lost so much weight. But they don’t know what’s really happening. It’s not like I don’t want to eat, I can’t eat,” she shared.

The Emotional Story Behind Her Cat’s Name

Samantha also revealed the touching reason behind naming her pet cat Gelato.

During her treatment, food became a major challenge. The actress explained that she was forced to eat the same bland meals every day for nearly two years. As her health slowly improved, one of the first treats she was allowed to enjoy was a specially prepared gelato that was free from sugar and dairy.

That simple dessert became something she looked forward to every day.

Recalling the memory, Samantha said that when she later decided to adopt a cat, she named her Gelato as a reminder of that phase of her life and the small joys that helped her get through it.

Life After Myositis

The actress shared that she is now in a much better place physically. While she still has to be careful about her diet, she can eat more comfortably than before.

Samantha admitted that her illness completely changed her perspective on life and her career. Before her health crisis, she was constantly working and believed there would never be a pause in her journey as an actor.

However, being forced to step away from films made her rethink her priorities.

The break gave her time to reflect on old habits, personal goals, and the kind of life she wanted moving forward. She said the experience taught her valuable lessons and encouraged her to make important changes before returning to the industry.

A Journey Of Strength And Recovery

Samantha first revealed her myositis diagnosis in 2022 while promoting Yashoda. At the time, she shared an emotional note with fans, explaining that recovery was taking longer than expected but expressing hope that she would soon return stronger.

Since then, the actor has continued to inspire many with her honesty about health struggles, mental resilience, and self-care.

On the work front, Samantha will next be seen in Maa Inti Bangaram, directed by Nandini Reddy. The film also stars Gautami, Sreemukhi, Diganth and Gulshan Devaiah and is set to release in theatres on June 19.

Through her journey, Samantha has shown that healing is rarely easy, but openness and perseverance can make even the toughest battles a little lighter.
