Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal Power Rajasthan Royals Past Mumbai Indians in Record-Breaking IPL Display
In a breathtaking display of power-hitting, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal obliterated the Mumbai Indians bowling attack in IPL 2026 on Tuesday, setting new records and leading Rajasthan Royals to a commanding victory. The rain-curtailed 11-over-a-side match in Guwahati saw RR post 150 for 3, eventually winning by 27 runs as Mumbai Indians managed only 123/9.
Jaiswal anchored the innings with authority, scoring an unbeaten 77 off 32 balls, blending elegance with brute force to dominate MI’s bowlers. His innings included 10 fours and four sixes, establishing an opening partnership of 82 runs in just five overs with Sooryavanshi, who contributed a whirlwind 39 off 14 balls. Together, the pair struck a combined nine sixes, keeping the opposition under relentless pressure.
Sooryavanshi’s performance was historic. He smashed five sixes in the match, including two off Jasprit Bumrah, surpassing the record held by Ishan Kishan and Rishabh Pant for the most sixes in the IPL before turning 20. With 35 sixes in the tournament, Sooryavanshi became the first teenager to hit more than 30 sixes in IPL history.
The match began with Jaiswal’s audacious assault on Deepak Chahar, scoring 22 runs in the opening over, including a six and multiple boundaries, setting the tone for the innings. Sooryavanshi matched his partner stroke for stroke, even taking on Bumrah, who had been economical in previous matches, and sending two of his deliveries over the boundary.
Trent Boult and Hardik Pandya were also taken to the cleaners during the powerplay, with Jaiswal dispatching Boult for three sixes in a single over, while Sooryavanshi punished Shardul Thakur with two towering sixes before eventually being caught by Tilak Varma at deep extra cover.
Mumbai Indians tried to claw back through some disciplined bowling from Allah Ghazanfar, who picked up two key wickets, but Jaiswal remained unfazed. He completed a scintillating half-century off just 23 balls and ensured RR reached a formidable 150-run mark in the shortened 11-over contest.
The opening duo’s blistering partnership not only ensured a resounding victory for Rajasthan Royals but also etched Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s name in IPL history as a teenage sensation capable of challenging the very best bowlers in the league. The performance is expected to increase calls for his immediate inclusion in India’s national setup.
