Mumbai — Former Australian cricket star Brett Lee has paid an emotional tribute to legendary Indian playback singer Asha Bhosle, following her passing at the age of 92 on April 12 at Breach Candy Hospital. Lee, one of the very few international cricketers to have collaborated musically with Asha Bhosle, reflected on their memorable partnership on the 2007 track You’re the One for Me. Taking to Instagram, Lee recalled his experience working with the legendary singer, praising her humility and warmth despite her towering success.
“I had the pleasure of writing and recording You’re the One for Me with Asha Bhosle back in 2006. It’s something I’ll always be incredibly grateful for,” Lee wrote. “What stayed with me most wasn’t just her extraordinary talent, but how kind and humble she was.”
He added that her personality left a lasting impression on him, noting how she carried herself with grace and generosity despite a career that spanned thousands of songs and decades of musical dominance.
“My thoughts are with her family and friends at this time. I feel very fortunate to have shared even a small moment with someone so special,” he added.
A Rare Cricket-Music Collaboration
The collaboration between Lee and Asha Bhosle became a cultural talking point in 2007 when the track featured on the album Asha and Friends. The music video was filmed during Lee’s visit to India for the 2006 Champions Trophy.
In his autobiography My Life: Brett Lee, the cricketer revealed that he even performed Hindi lines in the song and contributed creatively to its lyrics, which he reportedly wrote in just 30 minutes.
Lee also recalled secretly participating in the recording sessions without informing his teammates at the time, describing it as a refreshing break from cricket and a unique creative experience.

He also recalled meeting her again when she visited Sydney, where she presented him with a personally signed album—an item he continues to cherish.
