Actor Yash is all set to take on one of the most challenging roles of his career as he portrays Ravana in director Nitesh Tiwari’s much-awaited epic film Ramayana. While the role has given him an exciting opportunity, the KGF star admitted that stepping into the shoes of such an iconic character came with its own set of challenges and expectations.
During the film’s promotional activities at San Diego Comic-Con, Yash spoke about his experience playing Ravana alongside co-stars Ranbir Kapoor, who plays Lord Rama, and Sai Pallavi, who portrays Sita. The actor revealed that the biggest challenge was creating his own interpretation of a character that audiences have known for generations.
Yash shared that the story of Ramayana has been a part of his life since childhood. He recalled listening to the epic from his grandfather and growing up with his own imagination of the characters. However, he explained that bringing a fresh perspective to Ravana required deep understanding and preparation.
The actor said that since Ravana has been portrayed by several legendary performers over the years, there was additional pressure to meet audience expectations. He explained that when a character is already familiar to people, an actor has to work harder to present something unique while respecting the original essence of the role.
Yash revealed that he focused on understanding Ravana’s motivations rather than only portraying him as a villain. According to him, exploring the character’s thoughts, emotions, and intentions helped him create a different version of Ravana for the film. He expressed hope that audiences would appreciate his approach and connect with the character.
Ravana remains one of the most complex characters in Indian mythology, often described as a powerful ruler, scholar, and devotee of Lord Shiva, while also being remembered for his actions against Lord Rama. Over the years, many actors have portrayed the character, including iconic performances by Arvind Trivedi in the popular television series Ramayan and legendary Telugu actor NT Rama Rao in earlier adaptations.
The makers of Ramayana are aiming to present the ancient epic on a global scale with advanced filmmaking technology and a grand visual experience. The film’s team recently showcased the project at San Diego Comic-Con, where the cast received attention from international audiences.
The film’s trailer launch was postponed after producer Namit Malhotra announced a global partnership with Sony Pictures for international distribution. He shared that the makers wanted to introduce the film to audiences worldwide in a special way.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana will be released as a two-part cinematic saga. The first part features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Ravi Dubey as Lakshman, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, along with a talented ensemble cast including Arun Govil, Lara Dutta, Vivek Oberoi, Rakul Preet Singh, and Kunal Kapoor.
With its massive scale and star-studded cast, Ramayana has become one of the most anticipated Indian films. Yash’s portrayal of Ravana will be closely watched, as fans eagerly wait to see his unique interpretation of one of mythology’s most powerful and unforgettable characters.
