Ek Din Box Office Day 1: Slow Start for Junaid Khan–Sai Pallavi Romantic Drama

Romantic drama Ek Din, directed by Sunil Pandey and backed by Aamir Khan Productions, opened in theatres on May 1 with modest expectations. The film marks the Bollywood debut of acclaimed South Indian actor Sai Pallavi and the second theatrical outing of Junaid Khan. Despite the buzz around its cast and production banner, the film witnessed a slow start at the Indian box office.

Day 1 Box Office Performance

According to trade reports, Ek Din collected approximately ₹0.81–1 crore net in India on its opening day. The film registered around 14% overall occupancy, with 1,710 shows screened across the country. The India gross collection stood close to ₹1.20 crore, indicating a lukewarm audience turnout.

When compared to recent romantic dramas, the opening is on the lower side. Junaid Khan’s earlier theatrical release Loveyapa had opened slightly higher at ₹1.15 crore, though it also failed to sustain momentum in theatres.

Sai Pallavi’s past success in Telugu cinema remains significantly ahead in comparison. Her film Love Story had opened strongly with ₹9.05 crore, while the Hindi romantic drama Saiyaara (2025) continues to hold the record for one of the genre’s biggest openings at ₹21.50 crore.

About the Film

Ek Din is produced by Aamir Khan Productions under the leadership of Mansoor Khan, Aamir Khan, and Aparna Purohit. The film is a remake of the 2016 Thai film One Day and explores a fantasy-infused romantic storyline.

The narrative follows Dinesh, a shy office worker who is in love with his colleague Meera but struggles to express his feelings. During a company trip, he makes a wish at a mystical bell for Meera to become his girlfriend for one day—setting off a chain of emotional and transformative events.

Critical Reception and Industry Buzz

Early reviews have been mixed. Critics have praised Sai Pallavi’s screen presence, with many noting that she remains the emotional anchor of the film. Junaid Khan’s performance has been described as earnest but uneven in parts, particularly in the film’s climax where the writing weakens.

Aamir Khan, who attended an early screening, reportedly became emotional after watching the film and praised the cast, especially Sai Pallavi’s performance, calling her one of the finest actors in the country today.

Box Office Outlook

While Ek Din has opened below expectations, its long-term performance will depend heavily on word-of-mouth and audience reception over the weekend. The strong production backing and popular lead pair could still help it stabilize if positive reviews gain traction.

For now, however, the film’s opening places it firmly in the category of slow-starting romantic dramas in recent Hindi cinema.
